Based on how she said it was hard to use, my first guess is that its a type of sailboat.
Sailboats are notoriously harder to use then what we consider normal nowadays because how they are meant to be operated.
( at least compared to "normal" boats where you just turn a wheel to turn and point the stick in the right direction to make it go brrrrrrrrrr )

Ofc this is just my guess, we should be able to see the boat in the next chapter.
