I understand the JP author has to write a certain way or will get whacked with the Tokyo Metropolitan Youth Protection Act. And the fact he's sponsored by a (wholesome) car company.
I don't understand why JP authors insist on dragging their cultural and moral bagage into another country, or worse, another world. Knives are banned in some modern countries. Is he going to say: "Oh no, knives are banned in my country! So I can't carry one in this lethal wildnerness where people and animals are trying to kill me!"
Should he not fish in a stream because he can't find the fishing permit purchase box? Better starve to death! Because it's moral!
You adapt to the social norms and culture of the place you live. As a tourist, or a resident. If he wants to say "I have concerns I'll never be able to come back, and I have been raised with moral hangups against polygamy from my nation's culture." Or even "I don't want to take advantage of my circumstances to exploit this world's residents." That would make a hell of a lot more sense.
Instead we get this wishy washy beta MC behavior. I'm ok with the result, just not how they wrote to get there. He's literally tripping into another world; he needs to start thinking like an explorer, diplomat, or an astronaut -- not a insecure food-obsessed tourist. That's my only complaint. The earlier chapters had him acting like an explorer. Now he's acting like a tourist.
