Page 6:
Since our stock of seasonings had also ran out,
The past participle of 'run' is also 'run' so here it should be 'had also run out' and not 'had also ran out'.

Other than that, thank you very much for your work in translating this chapter.

"Uh... what about adoption... or a ritual that makes me to her guardian until she is old enough to handle herself?"
"NO!!! SLAVERY!"

Slavery was actually a fact of life throughout the entire world until less than a few hundred years ago. Adoption in this case wouldn't work since Sora isn't even married, nor is he even of age anyway.

Okay
I know children lack rights and defer to their guardians, but did this series need to phrase it that way?
unregulated guardianship slavery… why did it have to be slavery??? Why is it always slavery???
Exactly

Viewers must not forget that the author chose to write these events in such a way to allow this slavery event to happen.

This ain't no accident.

Guys, GUYS. Okay, I hate to be devil's advocate here, but this time the "special slaves" system seemed familiar to me as an actual historical system. And it was: the medieval apprenticeship.

Long story short, a 10-15 y.o. child could go to a medieval trade guild and ask for an apprenticeship, then with the guardians' permission they could go to the workshop of a crafter and work and learn under them, sometimes living-in in the crafter's household. These things were usually contracted through an indenture (a kind of "slavery"). After seven years or so, the apprentice could go their way as a journeyman crafter or continue in the workshop until become a master of the craft.

There is a manga which deal with something like this: Arte. In here you can see how this worked more-or-less historically.

So this time there was some actual basis. But you guys are right: Japan's fixation with slavery in fantasy is VERY worrying, specially taking into account Japan's history, even the comparatively recent (WW2) events.

Yeah but this is a fantasy (keyword fantasy) world with magic and shit, not every story has to have the "i'll make her (always a woman by the way) a slave to protect her" ans they treat it like having your freewill robbed (usually they can force slaves to obey with whatever magic slave mark) is literally okay because "it's ok MC treats her well" like he isn't a teenager with raging hormones and will never loose his shit and force her to have "a struggle snuggle" or to serve as bait.

And fun fact since the inception of slavery people have been denouncing it as an abhorrent practice, and let's not act it's ok because and i cite you without any intention to insult you "It was a fact of life", rape and pillage when capturing a city was also a fact of life (and still is) until not even 100 years ago (Japan in China, the Soviets going towards German and even the Allies while liberating Western Europe for some less recent and less controversial ones) but it still doesn't make it okay, it's fucking weird how Japan is fixated on it, if Western comics were this fixated on portraying slavery as a good thing people would have started huge controversies over it even long before the whole "Political Correctness and Woke" movement was an idea, once again this is a fantasy world and magical contracts are also a thing in some mangas no need to jump to slavery directly.

It's not because they're not Western and that the West used to exploit them (barely in the case of Japan) that it makes it okay to ignore the horrific shit they support, we need to stop with this "Thing in the West = but Same thing not in the West ="

I mean slavery was common during that technological period in the real world. I mean you can even see it in the bible where they lay out how you should get slaves and how you should treat them. Exodus 21. and Numbers 31 talks about how to deal with the civilians in places that they conquer, but that mainly deals with sex slaves given non-virgins and non-women aren't forced into slavery.

I think the main issue people have with the term slavery is that slavery implies that the person is viewed as property, rather than a ward. So they can treat them like objects in the case of slavery, unlike other options or contracts.

I mean in fantasy mangas 80% of the time slavery involves some Magic mark/collar where the "master" can literally rob any semblance of free will the slave can have with words, it's rarely slavery where the slave has a chance to escape or is under the threat of violence (it's still kinda is but i'm thinking more of the "guy with whip" kinda of violence).

Read Rule 1.
geez stop crying about muh slavery, I know you angloids have the guilt ingrained in your system but this is fiction, a medieval-esque one, this is just a convenient way for the author to:
1) avoid unnecessary worldbuilding, because this doesn't seem the type of drama to care much about the legal aspects of its fictional empires/states/whatever
2) grant a way for both of them to have an unalienable (for the time being) bond

I had hopes when the MC was anti-slave earlier, but I think I'm just gonna have to drop it at this point. Its so contrived and there were SO many other ways the author could've gone for that. So disappointing
how BITCH, HOW? you can see they have devices to prove if they're relatives, and explaining their circumstances will bring unwarranted attention considering they didn't report their encounter with the demon to a city he can no longer return to.

Seriously, this isekai was at least different.
I mean, there was a romance subplot with one of the 2 girls from the party, which is strangely rare nowadays that it wasn't the 2 in an other harem. And The plot even moved away from it which was, as well, not your common trope.
But no, let's add slavery everyone because somehow every Japanese ending in a fantasy world need and is for slavery. Even the girl on the last panels was like : "ok we fooled him, let's go like nothing changed at all", but no, let's do slavery. And i swear if there even a collar of some shit like that.
They can do anything with fantasy, but it has to be "isekai harem slavery against the demon lord in a F to S skills video game like and gilds" like seriously.

"Indentured Servitude."

I wonder if they still teach in schools that the United States / 13 Colonies used that system.

(And we sort of still do with the employer-controlled H1B Visa system....)
