Yes, yes I can. They didn't make much of a stink when the brother shot the Gym teacher dead, and then practically cheered when told they were allowed to have their way with the women. Not to mention letting half their population die to sickness and starvation while the brothers ate well in comfort. Sure most of the blame does fall of the leader's neck, but following orders is not the shield or excuse you make it out to be.

It's not that I don't see your point, I just don't think it matters. Reito rules thrue threats and deception. True his cohort is desperate and angry, but the lies will be exposed and they will be allowed join the other students in the village. And all it will take is Hokage stepping up and defeating Reito in the inevitable clash in the next however many chapters. Not exactly a logical way to handle the situation, but manga logic complies with reality.
Herd mentality is a powerful persuasive tool. If you're not a designated loser, it's much simpler to do nothing and go with the flow, especially when there's a significant imbalance in combat power. In this case, the leader is charismatic and has the sole gun. Most people's instincts are to obey the gun wielder, not challenge him empty handed. And while harsh, they cannot deny that Reito's methods have allowed them to survive thus far.

It's literally how fascists come into power, so this isn't a reflection of current American politics as much as it is textbook fascism. Reito has made his group entirely dependent on him for direction and they're unable to think for themselves. Yes, it is a bit unrealistic how quickly and thoroughly he seems to have done that, but again, not outside the realm of possibility.

On another note, denying the possibility that entire groups of people can be influenced like this is exactly the reason why America (and many other Western countries) are experiencing a huge ultra-conservative wave. Thinking that everyone should be able to resist the easy way out temptation like you are able to, and that if they can't, they're inherently bad or evil people, is exactly what drives those people to band together the way they do.

O . o;
I mean there are similarities, but that was not the distinction I was making. I only ment that we as humans have a capacity to act every bit as immature and tyrannical as Retio and his followers, and it wouldn't even take being stranded on an otherworldly island for it to happen.

Honestly after reading some of the other comments, think you are confusing me with someone else.

Nah, that was just a mental malfunction on my part, I suppose.

That said, it is true that people can get incredibly devoted to a cause or group. Particularly in the case of cults. But I really don't think this story has done any legwork to establish that level of devotion.

Reito's followers have no reason to be ready to go to war for him. Especially not against people who are actively offering them everything they ever wanted at no cost.

As a matter of fact, Reito's shitty leadership is the whole reason people have deserted. It's an open secret among pretty much all of Reito's followers that they all dislike him and want to leave his group. This should realistically be the excuse everyone was waiting for.

Yet instead, everyone just about-faces on that stance. For, again, no reason.

Easy to yap from behind a couch, no this is portrayed pretty realistically, we have plenty of real life examples, it's a known fact people often act in the way that would hurt people they dislike instead of making their own lives better.

The story: "We want to solve all of your problems forever, and we ask for nothing in return."
"WAR IT IS THEN!!!!"

You: "Ah yes, very realistic."

Don't forget they think this group are savages who kidnap people and build this with basically slave labour.

At what point was any of that stated or implied?

Hokage's group has offered an olive branch to Reito's group multiple times. Hokage's group has gone out of their way to give Reito's group food, and teach them skills. Again, multiple times.

Yes, people have gone missing from Reito's group, but there's nothing to suggest that Hokage's group kidnapped or enslaved them.

They don't need to join them, they can take it all by force,

Why the fuck would you take something by force when it's already being offered to you for free with no strings attached?

The reason they're in this situation is because they lack the knowledge and leadership to improve their situation.

You can't take knowledge or leadership by force.

The best possible outcome from a war with Hokage's group would be a lot of dead people and maybe enough stored food to feed their group for a week.

At the end of that week, they would be in exactly the same position they were in before, except the people who were offering to help them are all dead now.

and they were manipulated to think this is the only option.

Reito gave a speech that made a lot of accusations toward Hokage's group. He gave no evidence to support any of his accusations.

Reito's group has no reason to actually believe his accusations. In fact, they have several reasons not to.

We've been shown multiple times in the story that Reito's group dislike and distrust Reito. His leadership has gotten several people killed, and the whole group has been a few bad hunts away from starvation since they arrived on the island.

So again, the only reason they're actually going along with any of this is because the plot demands it.

The author couldn't have made it mpre simple for you and you still missed the point.

The author could have actually done quite a lot to make this conflict actually believable, yet he failed to do so.

Just a heads up: I bought an ebook of volume 10 because chapter 54 had a hot springs chapter.

No nipples whatsoever. XP

I kind of thought that after all this time the MC wouldn't be a weak coward, he'd have actual combat skills, he'd have actual backbone. I guess I was wrong.

The MC is dealing with a guy who has a gun, remember? I know mangas function differently than real life, but guns are a lot deadlier than fists!

Do you ... see... the gun? Do you see it drawn or even exposed? The MC is feet in front of him and carries a knife. The other guy has nothing but a gun with limited ammo.

I know manga functions differently than real life, but magic still doesn't exist. A gun is only a threat once it's drawn. There has already been several shots fired, as well that the MC knows about. The MC could VERY easily take him out, he also has the assassin girl watching.. or should.

This situation, right here, the MC could grow a backbone.

Reito is keeping his gun hidden as a trump card, but he doesn't know that the MC knows about the gun since the glasses girl told him about it. Would you charge at someone if you knew they had a loaded gun?

Also, Reito
has one of his cronies hiding behind the MC to assassinate him, but the assassin girl will thwart that.
