It's kinda like a quicksand pit, the more the author sets themselves up by piling on all the developments (especially new girls that only appear for a short arc and do not contribute anything), the harder it is to just break it with a confession, and slowly the relationship goes nowhere until the series gets axed and the author needs to drop a random ending the nextdoor angel spoils me rotten has almost the exact same premise and going down this route too, but at least the focus always stayed on the main couple so you can see an ending. This one is edging without a finish
