To be fair, they probably had to deal with a lot of people trying to scam them...

Though I find it weird that he repeatedly tried without a recommendation once he was told the first time....

Like, why does he suddenly not have enough intelligence to actually figure out that he doesn't have any way to properly identify himself??? Why did he not try to wait for the mayor that he knows??? He faced a problem and didn't even try to wait for a person he knew to try and help him.....

it'd be interesting if previous customers/adventurers kicked their ass but more satisfying if they just boycotted their places or whatever

Tho you'd think if "The merchant from Ninorich who sells matches" reached all the way there they'd know what he'd look like, even tho JP male protag wise he might seem generic but he might be one of the few ppl with dark hair (tho given the art style i don't know if he's meant to look Japanese while everyone else looks more "European" or whatever)

yeah i get that, tho i'm sure other than him 'violating' some rule by setting up a stand without permission or so i'm sure he could either do private sales or show off more 'unique' merch (or some kinda loophole where it's like "Well, technically i'm selling desserts not items so i don't need the merchants guild for permission to set up a food stand" )

but yeah clueless protag culture shop and all, if i was an aspiring merchant myself, personally i'd spend 2-3 days sightseeing and listening to gossip and rumors and ask around about what ppl would 'want' as a purchase that the existing merchants can't already provide XD

I'm all for setting up revenge porn, but my selfish hope as a reader is that stories like these don't stoop into using comically evil characters to show the injustice in the system. It's almost like the equivalent of being talked down to with how simple and established the trope is.

with this on top of the bathhouse chapter, maybe he'll end up making a profit off of some soaps

if not just like make it himself instead of reselling since i know soap making is a hobby (tho other than like magic or taking out molds from leaving it overnight or so[admittedly idk much about soap making], i know it takes a while versus just to get a solid bar tho i suppose there's always liquid soap options)

Also you'd think they'd be more careful, about merchants from the town, that is basically their supplier, for the fancy new merch. If you don't know who the supplier is specifically, why would you blindly provoke people who could be associated with them? I get that they ran into a-lot of upstarts; but, not doing any market research on the new product is amateur hour stuff. did they just assume the supplier had lots of connections and thus would be easy to recognize? Seems a little incompetent for a major group of a commerce town.
