Well tbf it's mostly probably a combination of
1. Most people here probably haven't read the R-18 version so don't actually know what she did exactly
2. Most people can tell she's basically a completely different person now who's genuinely incredibly remorseful for her past even thinking she deserves all this making revenge just not feel justifed anymore

Now I'm actually gonna defend MC for a moment here- what we were shown was fucking B A D can you imagine probably how much more messed up shit she did to him? I've made "fuck MC jokes" previously but in reality, I really don't blame him for all this- the only thing I feel like I can judge him for is if after this point he CONTINUES to not realize the person who made his life hell is effectively completely gone and that the girl he's getting his "revenge" on has learned the error of her ways already and is longer truly deserving of his punishment especially considering how others are treating her already

My reading of this is that he kind of just has to get this all out of his system first before he can actually move on. Consider what his next move has to be? Is he going to keep punching her? Keep repeating that he was just pretending to be nice the whole time? The cats out of the bag now so really there's not a whole lot left he can do with the revenge arc, and I suspect that with all the time they've spent together he probably doesn't want to separate from her entirely.

Also he said that in past tense there's no way it's not going to be turned around in the next page or two. Surely people are just acting dramatic in the comments here to play along right?

I think you're missing my main point that it's very obvious she isn't just "sorry" she's now basically a completely different person who very much acknowledges she was an immensely shitty person and is very genuine in wanting to atone for her treatment of him the best she can

No idea what strawman you mean, if you read the posts before mine you'll see people either in denial, surprised or cursing the author as if him getting revenge wasn't the main focus of the story.

This shift in conversation has been going on for the past few chapters-- it didn't just start in the discussion of this chapter.

Yeah, it's true that MC clearly isn't sure about his revenge anymore, but it's within the realm of logic to expect a revenge in a revenge story.

And it's also within the realm of logic to take issue with the MC's logic, regardless of whether we can expect revenge in a "revenge story".

Yeah screw this, the author has some serious issues man. The only things I can think of that would warrant this level of revenge are so illegal she would be in jail before he could get his revenge, so this HAS to be some sort of revenge porn or something.

I tried to give this manga the benefit of the doubt, but it genuinely makes me sick seeing her be treated like this for literal months by everyone she's encountered so far. Let me know if it gets better, but I can't read much more of this anymore.

Look I get that this is a revenge story but like, so much of the buildup has made the story feel like there would be a twist. We had several chapters of MC's thought bubbles turning progressively white even!
Hells, even the girl he wants to get revenge on has clearly grown as a person!

And we're supposed to see all that and just assume that the worst written, least developing, most devoid of growth element of the entire manga is the MC??
That's like the last interesting possible outcome from so much buildup. There is no twist, the last 30-something chapters are meaningless, and we got weeks of chapters with nothing but a punch for a conclusion??

If the plan was always that in the end, then this is a waste of pages. MC had no growth, barely changed as a person. He's a bitter fuck who sat on the idea of hurting someone and nothing else for way too long while the world changed around him for the better.

I'm still gonna hate-read this because it takes more than that to make me stop huffing hopium at this point, but right now fuck the MC and fuck the author.

MC is definitely changing thats pretty clear with how difficult his revenge is becoming for him.

Also just cause a character stumbles in that change doesn’t undo all their progression like look at Zuko from Avatar.

Betrayed Uncle Iroh then realized that regaining his honor wasn’t what he wanted and he had to work to make amends.

If anything his confession so early shows MC is scared of actually falling for her and is quickly trying to push her away.

I think its too early to criticize him especially not even considering his OWN trauma from her.

Agree that MCs revenge is childish and he should move on.

But its wrong to just ignore what shes done wrong and how much its affected MC.

If a murderer murders you father then feels guilty afterward are they entitled to forgiveness?

Would you knowing your father was killed by this man not feel vengeful about it?

It makes sense for MC to hate her and acting like he should just wholeheartedly accept her because she’s “changed” doesn’t mean anything.

Especially considering this is at her lowest. What’s to say she won’t change when she’s back on top again?

And the jacking off is actually very serious for her to do. She essentially spread child porn throughout the school as blackmail and irl would serve prison time for it.

She played with his emotions using that photo, so is she really not as wrong as he is for just faking his affection for her?

He hasn’t done anything especially wrong besides faking affection either and swinging at her once either, so I think its unfair to just drag him through the mud because we don’t see as much of his situation.

Also don’t expect everyone to acknowledge comments from the previous chapter. Its pretty clear the guy from earlier was talking about people from this chapter in specific.

And that context yeah its pretty stupid to not expect revenge in a revenge story.
