This was really good, but also a mistake on my part to read this on Valentine's Day. At least the TL is...honest about their intent :aquadrink:.

Thank you for the translation (it's cool that the author is also a musician, and a pretty good one at that. I watched their MV after reading this and it was solid).

I don't think the reactors to your comment understood. I don't think @thatmanthatthat is saying that the woman "cannot" or "should not" make more than the man, it's just an observation that it tends to work out that way. I've heard several stories of husbands being super supportive of their ambitious wives, either doing a less-lucrative job they enjoy, or being househusbands. But I've also heard several stories about marriages becoming unstable because the husband got weird about income. Us men are generally taught that we need to be the bread-winner of the house so, when the wife becomes the bigger bread-winner, it makes the guys that gauge their sense of self-worth on that feel like they've lost their place in the house. It's not a good thing, just a sad reality. Yeah, it sucks but society (or whatever).
That's what I was saying, men are expected to provide for their families so when they are in a situation where they don't need to because their partner earns more it hits them right in the gut and they will feel inadequate.

I actually enjoyed this.
On the surface the disparity in their incomes and lack of communication seems like the primary factors leading to their relationship breakdown. But Hana's competence was like a mirror to Tarou's incompetence. He couldn't actually stand being around her anymore as it was a constant reminder of this. Not saying it's easy but dropping societal expectations and ego will make a lot more people happier than ascribing to cultural brainwashing. It seems like this is a particular problem for men in general.

It's quite interesting seeing this oneshot being paired with a tune. Speaking as a composer, I would probably have a lot more work if I'm less picky and was able to bring myself to write bullshit tunes about fictional characters. That just always felt so meaningless to me. And this leads me full circle back to whether we should suck it up and ascribe to societal expectations, or follow our hearts?
