You know, maybe you're actually right to some extent. The previous publication definitely screwed with the author's beat. We know, since he's very vocal against censorship. It's the typical case of "author wants to do something crazy, editor gives the greenlights, author does what he wants, editor gets cold feet midway, author is forced to release half-baked tease and bait content that doesn't commit."Yay. It’s back. It’s stupid, and it seems like the author makes it up as he goes, but it’s back.
anyway, since win has memory powers now, I expect a crap ton of flashbacks now.
And personally, I’d rather have it not be flashbacks. I’d rather we just started in chronological order. Then there’s a mystery. There’s a hope. Every time Mashiro, or zayn, or whoever, tries to escape or fight back…maybe they do. Maybe they don’t. It’s a cliffhanger. Read the next episode to find out.
But as flashbacks…we already know they didn’t succeed. So we’re just watching stuff that we already know until the next time we see the next flashback, then next flashback, etc.
The only time we have something “new” is going to be when win fights the commander…and even then we know that’s going to go to the commander. We don’t have a chance of a happy ending until we find out all 3 Walters first.
So we’re…basically in a holding pattern for the next 20-30 chapters at least. First we need flashbacks of every previous character. Then we need to lose round 1 to the commander. Then we need to find the 3rd Walter. Then, we have a 2vs1 round 2… and then we maybe get to sonething new thematically
He happens to be that one-in-a-million author that won't submit to that process, but because he had to end the OG JW and go to a different magazine to release the sequel, he probably had to start off the sequel from another POV to make sure no one's complaining he's just bringing the same work elsewhere. His original plan is probably thrown out of the board and he's making the flashbacks as a form of compromise to finish the previous story.
Those petals on Mashiro's head are like plot armor counters that save her from Dominators trying to assault her. Every time she escapes, one petal falls off. But he made Mashiro meet the Supreme Commander, who just went and blasted all the remaining petals off her head. He was probably getting impatient; he had to go on hiatus for a long time before Rebellion was ready to start.
