Also, if my consumption of anime and manga has given me a correct understanding of japanese law, the fact that she's kept her father's name means that legally they aren't even step-siblings. Well it would also be pretty weird for two guys, just culturally at least in the US. I’m torn? I feel like the answer is yes but then I consider two gay sisters kissing and my Yuri brainrot sets in so I wanna say it’s totally kosher.

Someone needs to make a big list of all these romcom manga that shamelessly abuse the garbage method to stall development because the author is a useless hack.

Unfortunately that’s also just appealing to the audience. Turns out the Japanese people really really like seeing familiar things across their manga, that’s why so many authors do it, because that’s what the audience wants.
