Or is this truely a "one last action" kind of deal and now both are actually dead? Are they both possessed? Is it now only the king possessed and they both merely passed out? I mean, that last page is kinda ambiguous.

He probably thought he killed the demon god when he cut it in half, problem is he forgets the no 1 rule of fighting spiritual beings, you gotta hit either the core or destroy all of it at once.

Yeah, I was thinking Giselotte cast a suicide attack, which is bad, because without at least one of the rulers alive, the entire kingdom will fall under threat of nearby kingdoms - the reason Haruto refrained from executing Giselotte from the get go...
