I never got into gundam/kits like these but it's cool that there are things where ppl can arrange it themselves (tho i'd be scared of spending a ton of money to mess it up rather than it being something bought for a trio of like elementary schoolers working on it together)

I stopped building gunpla/kit around 6-7 years ago after I ran out of shelves to put them,
around 50-60 or so of them
And even then, I was still at the lower end of the scale compared to my friends who collect action figures.
(and anything that incite them on buying the action figures)

Well, I'm just a casual straight builder, so I don't invest on more advanced stuff like painting etc.
Now, I'm in the country of the gunpla itself, yet my apartment is even smaller, so I only got this one little spider robot from 86 to decorate my desk

Cool. tho if i were more into them i'd simply just pay for a full ver or so (although i wouldn't be surprised if there were other pl you could pay to paint it for you like those anime figure garage kits)

yeah, that's why I truly understand when people splurged money to buy things because they admire the looks of the thing they buy. Because they do look cool and beautiful.

But for me, I was more fascinated by the detailed mechanism and "robotic" aspect in these gunplas.
Like the design and intricacies of the joints or inner frame/skeleton. That's why I chose to build them instead of just buy the already made.
Because ultimately, these are just kids toys, right?. They don't necessarily need to design it to be this complicated.
So for 13 years old me when I built my first HG, finding out that it used 2 joints for elbows and knees, instead of just a single 90degree joint like the rest of my toys, blew my mind.

The lore might be from one of the 6 anime series, or any spin-off manga. I only saw random bits of Chaotic Century and New Century when it first aired here, but the Zoids turning into people wouldn't be that farfetched. They were sentient, at least some of them were. Guess I know what I'm watching for the next few days.

Interesting. I tried looking up the Zoids thing myself, but yeah, no dice here either. Interestingly, looking into Zoids, while I never saw the show, I now realized I had some of these toys as a kid. No idea why or what relative bought them for me, but it's interesting to be reminded of them.

The story about it was back in the 80s lore when the Planet Zoids Zi consisted of both alien humanoid and dino like species.
A colony ship from Earth crashed into the planet, and its survivors split up and joined with the two warring humanoid zoid tribes, the Helic and Zenebas. With the Human advanced tech they started fighting anew, until an asteroid smashed into the planet , killing most of the original zoid aliens, leaving most humans on the planet now

wow, zoid kits no longer come in sprues? so it's closer to Lego now?

also chrome plated sprues are the best if and only if they're undergated. otherwise, they're the worst

No sprues but STILL with Nubs? That would take LONGER to clean up and assemble since with the Sprues, they hold your parts in a single place and you know EXACTLY where the nubs are.

What a pain.

Sprueless pieces, and shipping them stuffed in a bag is just asking for something to come broken. Warmachine Mk4 does exactly that and it has a serious problem with warped/bent/broken pieces. Better in sprue, to be honest.

But the 2 and 1 types of sprues are a surprise. I'm more used to the colored and transparent ones, so the widest frame looks like a good idea, but the prepainted chrome one looks like a pain with the potential trimming and mould lines.

I've built two Zoid models so far with a third on it's way, and they all came with sprues. It might be a thing with the manufacturer though, since there are two main Zoid model manufacturers. I'm sticking with Kotobukiya, but there's also Takara Tomy which makes motorized models. Iirc the bags shown in this chapter are for organization with each bag containing the scrues for the main body, arms/legs, weapons, etc. I could be wrong about that though since it's been two years since my last build, so I may have to remember to edit this when the third one comes in.
