I forgot, did her basic bug unit have the ability to dig underground? Vaguely remember them popping up from below the floor in one scene, unless I'm confusing this with a similar isekai. If so, could she have placed some under the king and attempted an attack from a different direction when his escort put up a barrier around him?

This is actually a good question. Barriers are always depicted as semi-spheres, but one would imagine they'd either:
a) continue as a full sphere underground
b) create a "floor" of protection under the casting area
if not, quite a huge flaw in spellcrafting, to completely ignore a direction of attack.

Swarm gotta swarm, but the MC seems utterly lacking in tactics and resources. She has like, what, 2 units in her arsenal, not counting the champion? And why just bash her head against the wall, and attack it with a bunch of level 1 units?

For an RTS-fic, that part of the story was always very underwhelming, tbh.
