Especially with how horrible the working/living conditions were for his present companions, this only makes him look incredibly stupid. If you need to introduce moral complexity to your bullshit fantasy slavery, show us him emancipating someone who basically turns hostile in response to being yanked out of plush manor life and into the wastes.

nina feels a bit too strong. and the advances through her are quite massive in such a short time. i hope the pacing of these chapters will tone just a little bit more, since initially, i thought we'd get chapter 10 be about making new beds and maybe some house extensions. a full blown mining area and excavated ore in this number just feels rather rushed, unless nearly another week passed.

i only can guess for Nina that an open mine is somehow safer than a tunnel mine since it won't crumble too easily. but i can see the problem if it rains or snows.. it will make the mining harder perhaps?
