When she starts fighting Shadow, her own anger as well as Shadow's attacks slowly starts to heal her body and she starts to gain her original form as the battle progresses. That LN illustration we see is the process of the change happening to her during the battle.

I read the official translation by Yen Press.
As for the positioning of the Illustrations, it should technically be based on the description of the content, but some translators do make mistakes in the assumption of when it should appear and either place it too early or too late.
