I’ve let this build up over the years. I’d never gotten past chat 12-13. I’m on 43 now and like others have said, I’m tired of this. The Maintenance of the status quo is boring like an American sitcom. Everything around MC is changing and growing and MC stays the same clueless, chunni as ever. That’s not funny when repeated. Especially when the background mobs change, grown in numbers, power, and wealth. It’s frustrating MC doesn’t comprehend the changes in his followers.
Plots have to be plausible in a logical way even in a comedy. Mr Bean remaining clueless forever works because Mr Bean is always alone, is not exposed to access to wealth, and has no talents to hide or use. There’s also nothing of importance behind the scenes with Mr Bean. He doesn’t need to grow. There’s no stakes.
There are stakes behind the scenes in this story. Geopolitics, economics, and the harem members in love. Indefinitely being clueless to these things is funny for a few arcs but once the mobs get important, MC just becomes boring. Him engaging and learning more about what’s actually happening because of him is more entertaining. I know that fact because stories like Overlord embrace that. Mono gay is swept up in the story and role play. His supporters are doing all kinds of shit he is clueless about but Momonga knows the broad strokes. CID is just dense and oblivious and it’s boring after a while.
The art isn’t even great enough as a distraction. I’m bored and done.
