Well, this was a story that existed.

I think I initially got into it through Supereyepatchwolf's recommendation when he complemented the use of an older main character chasing old dreams. And I got to say, that hardly came through, Kafta's age feels meaningless. You could have just as easily say he was just weak or inept and it doesn't really change much. He acts like a teenager/young adult.
I think that was also my sane exposure, I know at least is as Reding it long before the anime announcement. Similar thoughts as well, this was a very safe cookie cutter story. You can tell when someone is going to get a power up, there's way less death than there should be, fights are determined on random/destined powerups often. We needed a side manga just to explain the new weapon Kikoru uses. We don't even get the origin of the Kaiju properly explained, only Kaiju no. 8 being the collected resentment of old kaiju soldiers.

Once again, a shonen too afraid to give closure to its romantic subplot, not even acknowledged here. What the hell was all that teasing for them to not even get them in an end-shot together set to fight the new monster?

Well this was a regretful read. The worst shounen jump comic I've read so far. Ending itself is alright. Just the dragged out crappy fight made it bad.

Not a satisfying ending, but I enjoyed the story.
It sets itself for a long-run series but failed to pull through, and side plots became loose ends. Got lost in the sauce and missed the key emotion that gave the series its motion in the first place.
Solid 3.7/5.

This is another example of what glazing one barely half interesting enemy does to your manga going out like a wet fart in the wind.

So long, good riddance and may you be forgotten by even your greatest fans.

Better change the manga's title to Blueballing No. 8 'cuz my no. 8 ball is blue as fuck. Not even ending with Kafka and Mina fighting side-by-side, I can't even.

here I thought the source of the monsters was destroyed.
It was certainly implied when it took over all the other kaiju and #8 was all, "We've always been at war with this specific kaiju" flashback.

The second half of this series certainly went off the rails real quick.
