Just some analysis on the various kaiju based on observations and interest in what the series has shown so far. Had to figure out simple terms to make an attempt to make sense. Hopefully anyway…
-
Hostility = Intentional and abnormal aggression with high intelligence behind actions.
Predatory = normal behavior, not abnormal aggression. Less intelligence behind it and more instinctual behavior.
-
Squids- low hostility and predatory behaviors, weird for a squid.
Orochi- MASSIVELY predatory and high hostility, very much a predator but shows some very oddly premeditated aggression, especially for the juvenile ones.
Hiruko- the highest aggression both in hostility and predatory behaviors. Premeditated aggression and predation. Leans fully into the second highest predatory behaviors, but doesn’t show as many behaviors that would class it as a high hostility creature? Though that’s my interpretation, some actions could have been hostility not predatory.
Homusubi- interestingly zero on both counts. Only got violent on being attacked and most victims were purely accidental. Honestly weird idea, this species is very possible to maybe befriend or manipulate as an ally. Definitely intelligent. Not sure if it was for dramatic effect but it’s implied by the end dialogue of its death it held off detonating so people could evacuate… which is so makes it the first “good” kaiju.
Crabstar- Fodder it seems, very little hostility and very high predatory behavior. Seems to be less intelligent than the rest.
Anglerfish- From what little is there definitely predatory and definitely hostile. How much so is to be seen. The babies are probably gonna be nasty little buggers.
Cephalopod- not much there. It is definitely destructive… but not seeing mention of eating people. It reacts to being attacked with some actually tactical behavior. Do expecting it to be a hostility behavior one. Not much predatory behavior in seeing but it’s not shown enough to say that for sure. Would be interesting if it’s like Homusubi.
Archerfish- feeds on oil, attacked a perceived threat, and shows cautious behavior. Definitely seems non-predatory and non-hostile. Though it depends cause it’s hard to truly say if the caution was actually just stalking behavior… which would completely flip the script. Though still it doesn’t act outwardly hostile unless feeling threatened.
Nue- a massively predatory feeder, attacks in a very reactive way and also learns to deal with threats fast so it’s definitely intelligent. Also has hostility, but not sure if it’s actually outward. Seems to just be an extreme filter/bottom feeder than anything.
Definitely looking forward to seeing what the author has in store!
Also hoping that “predatory giraffe” looking thing when they were discussing the Hollow Earth in chapter 29 actually shows up.
