As much as i'm enjoying this manga I find myself frequently LOLing at some of these names.

The US anti-monster unit is called "Nimrod" and its led by Colonel Sanders :ROFLMAO:

Mick Jabiru? Why not Mick Dundee or Mick Billabongaridoo?

The Filipino surname are somewhat believable as "de la Cruz" are one of the common surname. As for "Mil" it is still possible as they do want to be unique as possible(Common names have difficulty processing papers and documents)

Filipino ships names are also accurate as they use Filipino heroes.

The only thing the may be inaccurate is the long hair on soldier. Depending on branch even women have the same buzz hair cut as the men. I said maybe cause they might gave an exemption for anti kaiju units(high mortality rate)

Called it! Quantum levitation on a giant scale. Nue also uses the same mechanics to stun prey clearly.

Also, there is a theoretical explanation for some humans being able to sense the giant monsters. Mirror neurons keyed to particular high output electromagnetic pulses (like those emitted by the kaijuu) firing in the sensory cortex could explain being able to "hear" the kaijuu. The trait would likely become atavistic over the long gap since the kaijuu left the surface with rare families, like Commander Yamato's, retaining varying levels of sensitivity.

Is this what the author is basing things on? No idea, but it is fun to think about.

Just some analysis on the various kaiju based on observations and interest in what the series has shown so far. Had to figure out simple terms to make an attempt to make sense. Hopefully anyway…

-

Hostility = Intentional and abnormal aggression with high intelligence behind actions.

Predatory = normal behavior, not abnormal aggression. Less intelligence behind it and more instinctual behavior.

-

Squids- low hostility and predatory behaviors, weird for a squid.

Orochi- MASSIVELY predatory and high hostility, very much a predator but shows some very oddly premeditated aggression, especially for the juvenile ones.

Hiruko- the highest aggression both in hostility and predatory behaviors. Premeditated aggression and predation. Leans fully into the second highest predatory behaviors, but doesn’t show as many behaviors that would class it as a high hostility creature? Though that’s my interpretation, some actions could have been hostility not predatory.

Homusubi- interestingly zero on both counts. Only got violent on being attacked and most victims were purely accidental. Honestly weird idea, this species is very possible to maybe befriend or manipulate as an ally. Definitely intelligent. Not sure if it was for dramatic effect but it’s implied by the end dialogue of its death it held off detonating so people could evacuate… which is so makes it the first “good” kaiju.

Crabstar- Fodder it seems, very little hostility and very high predatory behavior. Seems to be less intelligent than the rest.

Anglerfish- From what little is there definitely predatory and definitely hostile. How much so is to be seen. The babies are probably gonna be nasty little buggers.

Cephalopod- not much there. It is definitely destructive… but not seeing mention of eating people. It reacts to being attacked with some actually tactical behavior. Do expecting it to be a hostility behavior one. Not much predatory behavior in seeing but it’s not shown enough to say that for sure. Would be interesting if it’s like Homusubi.

Archerfish- feeds on oil, attacked a perceived threat, and shows cautious behavior. Definitely seems non-predatory and non-hostile. Though it depends cause it’s hard to truly say if the caution was actually just stalking behavior… which would completely flip the script. Though still it doesn’t act outwardly hostile unless feeling threatened.

Nue- a massively predatory feeder, attacks in a very reactive way and also learns to deal with threats fast so it’s definitely intelligent. Also has hostility, but not sure if it’s actually outward. Seems to just be an extreme filter/bottom feeder than anything.

Definitely looking forward to seeing what the author has in store!
Also hoping that “predatory giraffe” looking thing when they were discussing the Hollow Earth in chapter 29 actually shows up.

@Gold_Scale First off thank you for picking this up as well as improving the legibility of text as you did more of this.

However I'd like to amend that Commander Yamato's name is Yamato Yoshikazu as per the ch 0, I'm not really sure if his sister or brother have similar puns for their names though, as I don't know the furigana for their names. I just wanted to point it out in case Reina might have a different pronunciation as well.

Again, big thanks for the work on this and see you next Vol!

Squids are mentioned to be ill-equipped to go to the shallower seas, so they don’t have many chance to show-off.
and meta reason probably because the design is too “normal” and boring as enemy compared to the other monsters.

After the power scaling jump with Nue, hard to imagine another brute force monster will be enough to provide the usual storytelling’s demand for increase in stake.
Speculating the next one should be more something like guerrilla warfare that are difficult to detect and can enter spaces.
Or something invisible like unknown pathogen from hollow earth. Although disease took too long to handle for the story pace so far, so probably small parasites or something like it.
Or an “overmind” kind of monster that are smart and controlling other monsters, but that got too much last boss vibe.

I just wanted to point it out in case Reina might have a different pronunciation as well.
The latest free raw chapter has her name with furigana (page 6), so the reading is confirmed.

Mechs, people. You need mechs. Fast flying mech with enough firepower to flatten countries.
Or orbital bombardment with minimal guidance.

Mechs, with rocket punch!

Or, bring back the age of battleships. America churned out a lot of those during the few years of WW2 right? Surely they can build more now with better tech. :D
