So they have incredibly hard working demons who were the sole suppliers of mythril.... And they screwed them over to the point they were going to kill them all?
Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. If you kill them, then you wont get ANY mithril. And the next batch you bring to the mines will know you killed them, because soldiers gossip like washerwomen.

On another note: You would think that pickaxe would have done more damage when it was completely by surprise to an unprotected head.

@Riger demon strength and power seems to follow odd rules because you are absolutely right. A blow that could shatter rocks for mining when delivered as a sneak attack against a race that is canonically weak in melee should absolutely do a lot more damage. Either his jewelry is more than just jewelry or the same rules that make Darius able to disintegrate a fully armored demon with a thrown hand trowel apply in inverse to demonic races.
