@Bill_Cosby420 like others said, its not a weird thing for enterprising merchants to sell weapons to their country's enemies. But regarding why mc has saying in the matter, it is mostly because he is the mc. But for in-universe reasons, he is also considered a trustworthy and influential person (married to the guild masters daughter, and friend to the mayor), he is the one who took the mine to begin with, he is the one bringing up the proposal to begin with, and is overall the strongest person around (barring the guild masters daughter) who is vital to be kept as an ally.
Does that suffice as reasons for why his motivations are asked for, and his counsel heard?

@hdfr not an unpopular opinion at all. I never heard anyone say they want the opposite (split chapters for more frequent releases), but plenty of people clamoring for larger releases.

There is a embargo list as well the Department of Defense have to authorize sales, if China wanted to buy F-22 from its manufacturer, Boeing that sale would be vetoed (some countries shown interest on the F-22, including I believe Japan but the DoD made it clear it wasnt for export) as for indirectly ... yes but thats why Iran Contras was a thing (basically the CIA was funding Contras with arm sales to Iran) and also very illegal since there is embargo to Iran and how they did it was a violation of a lot of laws, you cannot just sell a bunch of F-16 to a country knowing they will re-sell then to another country, there are assurances they are the end user and cannot resell then without agreement from the DoD.

Well, technically, the mine is now his since he is the only one who went and took it over. Also, he has exclusive control over the process of extracting the ore in the first place. If he isn't happy, then the mine is basically unusable anyways. So it is better to keep the mine running, while giving some to the Demons for a huge profit, then not using it at all and risking it going entirely back to the demons by force (since until MC showed up, the mine was thought to be lost forever to them).
