Yeah translating certain Japanese phrasing/honorifics is always hard. Personally I doubt really give a damn whether it's in english and they're still using honorifics or not as sometime it is an important part of the story.

And the example you gave is fitting as it does sound awkward in english. But I wouldn't recommend Sis or Bro 90% of the time as someone with 3 siblings myself: Siblings usually never call each other that.

If we do it's usually the later but not in a sibling way in a "Bro the actual hell?!" Casual slang. (bad example but the point stands) Usually if I ever use sis or sister it's in a mocking or joking way, or when talking to someone I don't know/doesn't know my sister. "Brother help" (meme) "Sister!" (if she's zoned out and I'm tryna get her attention. i find it funny)

But if the translator/publisher really doesn't want to use the Japanese phrasing do not use bro and sis it sounds way worse.

Idk though this is really only a problem in fan-tls or fanfiction.

And personally the TLs did a wonderful job regardless.

Yeah I get you, and I do agree on the "bro/sis" part I just had to add it as sometimes it makes sense in casual conversation. And I'm not disregarding the translators work this has been an issue in the manga/anime community since they first started translating them. Like how sometimes a classmate will say "Sato-kun" and it will be translated at "Mr. Sato". Which ends up losing the part of showing how close the characters are with each other to be able to use that suffix with each other.

Yeah I get what you mean. And that honestly sounds so funny but definitely frustrating.

I pointed out what I said because when translating you technically have to localize as well. Calling siblings as (literally) big sister/Onee-chan or Big brother/Oni-chan (I might've forgotton which is which) is as I'm told far more common in Japan and just not a thing in english. Same way that translating jokes sometimes just doesn't work.

Fan TL'ing is definitely a hard task.

I don't think "bro" works due to the slang out-of-family use. Sis would work fine for me. I think I slightly refer the original Japanese terms.

What is a problem though is referring down in age. Imouto and otouto don't sound that good do me and I don't know if they're used much in first-person speech IRL either.

No there are 6 chapters. Each one only stays up until the next one comes out, the chapter 5 raws are still easy to find on page 1 of google if you search the romanized manga name + "raw"
