That "newspaper" trick is somewhat out of date. The ink was good back when newspapers were being printed with lead types, but most newpapers use offset printing these days.

But it's still a thin enough paper that absorbs water good enough while not leaving a lot of fibers behind, so using newspapers to wipe your windows with when cleaning them is still a good trick - it's only that it no longer has anything in particular to do with the ink.
