He’s also apparently 5. Actual 5 year olds think they can protect their parents from danger. Cut him some slack. The only ones who understand what’s happening are the adults, some of the older kids, and the protagonist who has the life experience of an adult.

it's a mistranslation. the actual word is taciturn / 無口.
