The author made it seem like they weren’t together in the future, but I got one look at her daughter, and I knew she was Nishikata’s child, just by her reaction about the green peppers ???
This simple-mindedness , purity, cuteness and over-the-top reaction is direct resemblance of Nishikata!
But I still had my doubts, and only at the last panel of last page did we know, that their family name’s Nishikata now!
At first, I thought she was probably crying cuz they didn’t work out/ got separated or something, but now that I think about it, she might have been overwhelmed with past memories, where she laughed at him so much she got tears in her eyes!???

Okay, so Takagi got married to Nishikata, they got kid, then divorced (or he died) and she is now with another guy. They are either not married, or that guy took her surname upon marriage (in Japan you have to change the surname to match surname of your spouse because of XIX century law which people try to cancel by suing the government in the court of law every year).
Judging by this chapter alone, it's a plausible possibility.
