As mentioned earlier, the anime directly adapts from the light novel. BUT it feels a bit lacking due to that. The manga is objectively the best version of this story imo.

Manga adds characters that were not originally in the light novel. Sometimes replacing characters that felt basic or like throwaways. These manga originals got backstories, motivations, their strengths and flaws. Weaving them in the story to flesh out the parts that were lacking and at times changing how Beryl is as a character. He’s affected more by the things that are happening around him in the story. It helps his character development compared to how the light novel version does things.

Like first arc for example, we got Schupple and his crew replacing a box standard group of church knights who fight Beryl. In the original, these church knights were just simple minded and believed in their god and fought like calm fanatics. Schupple and his group add in more character nuance. Schupple is a broken swordsman having lost his way after a great tragedy that took something important away from him. The rest of his crew having unique roles and talents. Beryl’s feelings after the whole event are different than in the light novel due to this.

It is the same with each arc in a sense with adding in more characters to help flesh out the story more. Like in this arc, in the light novel, all the assassins are nameless and generic. But in this version we have several unique assassins and their unique fighting styles and bits. And on the good guy side we have the additions of those who are the secret bodyguards.

In terms of ranking this is most likely general consensus imo

Manga > > > > > light novel > anime

Anime isn’t bad, we do get the fights in motion, but it doesn’t have the same feel as how the manga does things. Also anime relies using CG models of the characters during some fight scenes. IMO anime is average.

Best way to describe the main differences of all three is with the light novel is like a pie shell thats half filled, the manga is that same pie shell but its perfectly filled, and the anime is just like the novel but its shaved down even more

and not the badass granma maid... the fact that she actually had complete domination over that bob-hair archer like it was nothing too...

looking at older chapters, granny maid was also the only person who could've been wary of Roze because she read the lips of Alecia talking with Beryl about how Roze hid her real strength. I hope she was able to pass on that information to someone else, since Alecia seems to be giving in and trusting Roze now, and can't expect Beryl to believe his student would be a spy for the criminals

Well, the secret unit counterattack failed miserably and they lost a very experienced person. The church (?) assassins may have missed this opportunity, but they still have the means to set up another attempt.

I was thinking the same, but I don't think it makes sense here. Poison here would out her or that maid who are undercover and observing the prince and his surroundings. They're still there just for information so they're not going to take any action without a plan.

EVERYONE in the manga feels like the main character. I feel like this is the main reason manga just feels better to expierience over ln and anime. You are just never dissapointed or annoyed no matter who we follow on the paper. Even side characters with no name (shout out the arrow in the neck guy) have their moments.

We could easily skip all the fight to get just the old lady one, but we get to see the guard and the rest of the assasins in action.
Manga isn't stopping to explain anything that happens (except when they like train, but that's the point of training, to discuss what you should do better), we are trusted to follow the fight, we are trusted to understand what is happening based on what the story told us before.

Moreover it's impressive how the story doesn't seem oversaturated with characters, everyone has time to be developed, everyone has a significance to them.

Fights in anime are not terrible, but I feel that compared to manga they are just alright. Case in point: The fight of Beryl with the baba-loli is just so much better in manga, it feels more grounded, yes, but also he somehow comes out as more powerfull than he does in anime. The choregraphy is just that better, the problem solving of characters is just so much more entertaining, the movement is somehow just a smidge better shown, which is wierd, cuz it's a drawing.

And side note: I don't know why, but the artistic choice to just not draw mouths sometimes, somehow adds this needed spice in scenes. Why does it work? No idea.



Let's not forget tho. [*] R.I.P. Grandma, let your soul take the arm as well.

Yes, I really like how the manga flashes characters out, even characters that are outside the MC's direct group of friends. By having the avarage knights, spies on both sides, the archers, everyone having a personality and being actually as useful as you'd expect someone in their position to be... It just makes the world feel more real, instead of everyone existing just as another tool to show how great and badass the MC is (like most fantasy mangas)

Speaking as someone that has consumed the LN, anime, and manga (but it has been a while), it is not bad, it is fine really. It is just the manga is just  that good with all if the adaptation expansion the manga does, just to mention one thing.

I don't disagree. I enjoy how the fights are too in the anime. I think it is just cursed by how WELL the manga does the fights. They show you everything including the sword path and details that you can follow that aid you AFTER the fight when they explain. A good example is his fight with his student who is an adventurer. How you can follow how he threw the blade up intending to get it back later. The manga choreography is just so good, that even if you animate it well you will get those comparisons. Really a kudos to the team on the manga fr.
