I don’t like degradation in general and thus I would be sad if this manga goes for that route, but you’re acting like the only possible way is yours. Funny you mentioned that one. I have 3 episodes yet to finish. It was really confusing until I realized that the anime is based on a manga that is based on a visual novel and they're doing different routes. The manga is so short (14 chapters that I'll just go ahead and read it (and maybe the 35 chapter anthology too).

The character models would fit Clannad quite well and one of the girls (Akira, I think she's named) reminds me a lot of Minori from Toradora. This makes sense considered the time period of all of these.
