the thing kaya smacks down is the ghost of the corpse, which is why kaya is confused when she looks back up to the window and still sees the "ghost"

the "ghost" behind the window is the hanged body swaying back and forth

Here in chapter 8 it's the face seen peeking through the curtains moving about.
In chapter 2 it's the picture book on page 15 (the animation is triggered very quickly).
