When Kaya tries to punch the creepy guy, she thinks that he got possessed by an evil spirit but the truth the guy just has a dark urge. I think Kaya rather than seeing evil spirits, also sees the force of evil, the malevolent energy. The bad teacher got switched by the entity in the mirror but she punched the real soul of the bad teacher and Mayumi's case.

Just a theory.

There are a lot of "small kid gets lost in the crowd" scenarios that frequently show up in anime/manga, but this chapter in particular was highly effective in showing just how easy it is to happen in a brief moment from the child's perspective and the very real dangers that can follow. It seems like the man wasn't even there to enjoy the festival, but was instead scouting for prospective targets to prey upon. His evil intentions and/or Kaya-chan's fears from being lost/taken probably influenced how he was perceived by her vs. other adults.

All in all, a very scary chapter for all the wrong reasons, thanks for the TL.

Kaya’s reaction probably got nothing to do with evil spirits at all.

She just start to feel that guy is a threat, and she react with how she had always handle threat, throw an imagine breaker at it.

It's in the boo- I mean, heart.

He's like the parallel of that dude from Mieruko-chan.

That wasn't as scary as some other chapters, but definitely more disgusting.
Plot's moving quite rapidly though.
Thanks for the chapter!

I just have a question!!!

Why... was there a hand print on her privates on the costume?

And... the father just left her alone... in a festive crowd too.

You know what, I'm going to have to partially agree with the evil creep here on the dad needing to keep a better eye on Kaya. The dad just buggered off without a word while Kaya was distracted - she didn't even get the chance to tell him she was going off to do something. He apparently didn't even hear her making a ruckus.

So I think we can all agree what the evil creep deserves to happen to him, but Kaya's dad also takes a giant friggin' L this chapter.

given that it's a school festival and there are other young kids, versus some kinda city summer fireworks thing, they're probably used to kids running off or it being relatively 'safe' for them to not keep track of them, but kaya is usually smart enough to re-join ppl she recognizes, tho idk how it'd be like if she ends up a fully 'normal' girl with all your supernatural sight gone or purified or whatever

In the end, I’ve always kept this image of Rui as my profile pic to constantly remind me that I have a series I need to finish. Whether I will pick it up is moreso whether I want to push myself even more or not. In any case, I’ll never forget Rui’s smiles in this series, which is why I picked up “Moukin-chan” in the first place (To this day, I have never seen a smile more worthy of protecting).

TLDR: Yes, it’s the owl girl, Moukin Rui. Since I’ve finally caught up to “Kaya-chan,” I might pick up “Moukin-chan” again and finish its last two volumes.
You've been translating 2 series's I've really come to love and I gotta give big thanks to you for that. I wanna say I'd be REALLY ecstatic about seeing Moukin-chan getting translated again. I ended up reading the Spanish translation to catch up a bit more but I'd definitely want to see the whole thing finished in English. Though, I wish you best of luck in medical school since academia's a real burnout driver, and thanks again for all the work bringing to light these 2 great series!

On the topic of this chapter... GEEZ this was the scariest one yet!

The dude who picked her up is her uncle on her mother's side, right? Why is everyone saying from one kidnapper to another? (To be fair, it's been awhile since I've read the previous chapters and might be conflating characters, lmao).

She is 100% a monster/evil spirit herself

Also i cant remember what the song is called but there is a song, where they sing “I am not afraid of God, I am afraid of man”, which I Think fits perfectly with this chapter, showing what we should actually be afraid of
