I'm so confused. So each first daughter of the lineage is a priestess? Like Nana's mom is a first born and Mitsu's mom would also be firstborn. Or can any daughter be a priestess? Isn't Nana the second daughter, so the power went to her instead of Mirai which may have earned her special treatment? But I guess if it's a ritual, you can technically do it with any daughter, regardless of whether they're firstborn or not, just like murai did to current pregnancy.
Nana is Mirai's elder sister. This is already explained in Chapter 18 page 2.

The daughters born through the cursed womb are PHYSICAL clones of the first priestess but aren't actually her. As such they share her powers but not her soul. Since they all inherited her powers it's actually safe for THEM to use the cursed womb spell since their power can mitigate the risk. The implication here is that because Mirai cheated and used the cursed womb on herself while not having any powers, she invited the first priestess into her firstborn daughter. This was somewhat OK since it just gave Kaya a second superpowered personality that's technically still a protector being - an angry one, sure, but she still protects. The problem is that Mirai then used the cursed womb spell a second time, which allowed other things (not the original priestess since she's already in Kaya) to enter her.

Thanks! Who is mutsu again? I hope kaya gets a happy ending but you'd think there'd be other psychic families in each town just to cleanse/exorcise the ghosts versus just letting there be more victims but guess you can't save everyone

I got a 'mangadex under maintenance' earlier so maybe some pages will still be slow loading now
Mutsu is the grandma's name. Every priestesses are named after a number. Grandma Mutsu is, Auntie Nana is seven, while Kaya is eight.

Instakilled, damn. So Kaya's mother is trying to "make" another pyschic but probably screwed up somehow and is instead pulling a Dark Gathering, it seems.
What likely happened was that for all the previous priestesses, Kaya included, they got their power (and soul) by pulling/copying the original pritestess's power (and soul). So if Kaya is already in possess of the power and soul, then what did Kaya's mom pulling this time for her second born?

Based on what was shown, definitely something much worse.

I wonder if the escaping sisters motives were to try and take this burden off her sister.......

The next few chapters will have a lot of lore dump about the family and also what drive Kaya’s mother.
The latest raw seems to finally finish the exposition and start back on the conflict.

It seems Kaya's mom hold a grudge against her family. That second child must be cursed.

I wonder if by performing the ritual a second time, Kaya's mom ended up summoning the god that gave the original priestess her powers

Nana's story contradicts Namu's story. Nana's story is that the girls born through cursed womb are (essentially) physical clones of the original priestess. Same appearance and powers (pretty much) but their own (presumably normal) souls.

So, are they specters that replace the original or not? Grandma (Mutsu) seemed quite human, but Mutsu saw her as colored black, much like Kaya. We also have Namu who yanked black-spectre-baby-soul out of Kaya.

I'm suspecting that Nana was only told a censored version of the truth by Mutsu.

Trying to integrate those stories... Maybe cursed womb creates a child who is a physical duplicate of the original priestess, but also yanks a (semi-random?) spirit in to occupy the fetus.

There's a question of whether the original priestess soul is being forcibly reincarnated. But then that raises the issue of how it occupies several bodies at once. (At least mother and child, but there could easily be a grandmother alive at the same time.) Might resolve that but saying that the infants only get a split off pieces of the original priestess' soul.

Minai using cursed womb? We only have speculation from Nana on this so far.

Kaya's body definitely had a different (and seemingly vengeful/malicious) personality in it when meeting Mutsu. And Mutsu definitely expressed fear and apology towards it, and was afraid of it killing Nana. So there must be some continued spiritual force involved in the rebirth process. I'm still guessing that Mutsu broke some sort of contract while trying to protect her first born child (Nana).

I'm guessing: Family made a contract with a god/spirit that allowed them to carry out this cursed womb process. (Maybe a contract that required them to pay a massive price on the 8th generation, which Mutsu then broke?) I would guess that the born children aren't possessed by the god/spirit (normally). Though maybe they get some fragment of its power.
