Huh? So, according to the diary, Yoshie got pregnant through IVF or something? I thought the secondborn usually got married and had kids. I wonder what would happen if it was a boy.......

"Boys really do love collecting weird stuff!"

As someone who once had a collection of theatrical brochures, I can confirm. Unfortunately, at some point I simply forgot about them and lost most of them, although at that time they were more than 10-15 years old. But seriously, I finally got around to watching the anime, and it was incredible. It's not a AAA show, but it captures the spirit of the manga perfectly.

I can't imagine being so calm before getting chestbusted

She was being brainwashed all along. The author hasn't come out and said the 'C' word, but the Ebisumoris are effectively a cult and cults tend to be very good at indoctrinating children and teens into giving up their lives.

I grew up in a fundamentalist religious sect that was very culty, and they were only a step away from this. Completely aside from my personal experience, we've all seen over and over and over again how horrific this can be in the real world every time a suicide bomber makes the news.

I don't know much about Asian religion, but judging by the way anime and manga depict provincial Shinto cults or New Age pseudo-Buddhist cults, many Japanese clearly "love" these organizations. There are even isekai anime, the entire point of which is to satirize cult practices as manipulative means of gaining power and popularity.

Add on to this that people in Asian cultures often have a very difficult time saying 'No', even if it means harming themselves. Going along with the group is more important than your personal wellbeing.

When the 'group' is deranged, that creates lots of tragedies really quickly.

My close relatives have had experience with pseudo-Eastern cults (I only learned many years later that real Hinduism and Buddhism don't work like that), so I understand them a little.

Reading those notes by Yoshie I'm even more convinced now that the Grandmother purposely didn't indoctrinate Mirai into the cult.

But if so she clearly communicated poorly with mirai....did she fear ANY proper mention of the true purpose of their family, and of a second born daughter, could make her at risk of being brainwashed?

I mean unfortunately it does seem she was correct considering the damage Yoshie's diary and notes to Mirai have done. I can't picture how the author will resolve this arc but I'm super interested to see how she pulls it off.

Thanks for the tl!
