Fucking wow.

I'm not gonna say it's the best route, but I can respect his choice.

Ending it is truly the only form of control we have in our life, and when we discover how little control we have, people often choose to end their life, as it is truly the only thing we ever can control.
Now, especially in the case of her not only seeing the true loss of any agency, cotrol, or freedom, but having done heinous things to others and a loved one, while also being constantly sexually assaulted... and worse, being forced to  enjoy these actions and the assaults?

Absolutely, she would want to die; any emotional being, with even the meanest modicum of compassion and decency, regardless of their darkest moments; any being would want to die.

Literally the only way for them to make the choice in any state of mind would be to prevent them from the act until some kind of distance from the events gave the ability to even think of the events without having flashbacks and psychotic breaks, or entering a fugue-state.

Also, common amongst rape victims? Intense promiscuity, bordering on nymphomania, and it turns out that it can be therapeutic.
So,  if they bang, MC's even being a "good guy;" unless she goes the other most common way, which is absolute abstinence; that would seem more likely with both the characters and the mangaka.
It's all about regaining control in the way your psyche will allow it.

...

Fuck, man... this manga is wild af...

At what point did I talk about wokeness? Hero tropes was the thing that the MCU had the most. Tropes are just a small part of writing that can be used correctly or badly.

Current western mainstream comics are bad because the author are more preoccupied with thinking about how the story will be received by current standards, instead of thinking about how to make a good story. Besides the fact that most of them were hired for other reasons, that weren't "I'm a good author".
Kudos for recognizing facts about tropes.

It's kinda tiresome to see people constantly treat them like they are the plague.

When in reality they are just a common element in storytelling. Neither inherently good or bad. (Arguably fiction is largely a revolving door of tropes that cycle in and out of popularity)

I would add many bad stories are bad because authors are too preoccupied thinking about tropes. Both authors who just follow tropes trying to add "appeal" to their story. As well as authors who preoccupy themselves trying to subvert them.

In reality, the only thing that matters is good storytelling and writing.

Take Zuko in Avatar. By and large, the entire story is chock full of tropes. Zuko is a vanilla prodigal son type trope, and villain becomes the good guy. Yet it is beloved by millions. Why? Because he had excellent character writing, and a fleshed out character arc.

One Piece also is a fantastic example of good writing. The story is heavily trope laden. Yet it also subverts tropes as well. It's one of the most predictable, unpredictable series out there. Oda doesn't really care, and just uses whatever ideas come to mind, and does good character work and worldbuilding and plot progression. While continually referencing his own series for callbacks and future plot progression(like seriously, there are so many small details and insignificant side characters who pop up again, with entire implicit character journeys)

Really? Damn I thought it was pretty rough.. I’m dying to see the meltdown from his ex. Unfortunately I have a terrible feeling he’s going to forgive her lol

What's with Isekai/fantasy/mmo-esque MCs and slavery recently? I get that most of these are just power-fantasy stories, but this is getting ridiculous lol. Just overplayed really.
I guess shield-hero is to blame, but I get the feeling this is before that.
Lol why blame the shield hero? His whole personality is an act. I will agree that it’s overplayed but to me anyway that’s what makes this one sooooooooo much better than most.. I mean come on.. the love of his life is getting banged behind a tree with him a couple meters away.. this hero is far more evil than almost every other one in this genre.. can you think of one that’s worse? Please tell me if so as I’d like to read it

Well, that's one clever way to keep the girl from killing herself--I approve. By the looks of things, she really would have gone and done it; she didn't even care that she was giving her intent away with what she said. Really makes sense: not only did she betray the guy she liked, she was forced to do so by the guy who--in the same way--forced her to part her legs for him. No wonder she flipped right the hell out.

That said...this manga's been exceptional so far. I'm just hoping that the author doesn't decide to have Toru (the guy is shaping up to be a god of war--I'm still thinking his name's supposed to be Thor) up and decide to return to seeing best girl Kaede as a "little girl" or something, and in such a manner find some way to have her play second-fiddle (or even be presented as equal to the other girls). Yes, the other girls--including and especially Lisa--had a rough time of this, since none of them wanted what happened (and Lisa was engaged to Toru); but Kaede absolutely blows all of them out of the picture (Nei, clear over the horizon). Kaede is also very obviously the main girl--if the author wanted to have Toru get back together with Lisa, he shouldn't lay bait with a patently superior girl like Kaede.

Of course, if there will be a harem (Kaede's already fine with Marianne, another smokeshow), it's fine if Kaede's got first position.
because there will be a harem and kaede is the main girl, marianne and nei are both part of it too

Yea this is one of the few times where slavery is "Ok" as we see she don't want to die but also does not want to live so be commending her to live so that she can see reasons to live and be around someone she has always trusted. Question here is do therapist exist? If someone was acting like that in back in the middle ages they would be considered possessed and killed.

Magic literally negates all of this, in no way is the quality of life or economies the same when any asshole off the street can make water out of thin air and life threatening injuries and sickness are cured with a potion. The rest is, again, rpg tropes. It's a game a telephone at this point.

You know I didn't say that, I said I want better writing, is that clearer? Please just answer this, why does Vinland Saga get near universal praise AND is based in medieval Europe including slavery DEEPLY embedded in the narrative? What's the difference you think?

I'm conflating another reply to me, that wasn't you so I appologize for that. The rest is culture war bullshit that I'm not really interested in going back and forth on. Agree to disagree.

I know, right? It seems like Japanese light novel authors just have a thing for glorifying slavery and normalizing pedophilia. Can you imagine if western comics/cartoons tried to have strong themes of slavery and clearly sexualized underage characters the way manga/anime does? People would die.

I wonder if this is just a difference of culture? Do the values of South American or African cultures allow for things like this in their media?
Africa still literally has slaves.

I'd give it about that. We are about chapter 37 in the wn. And it takes about 24 chapters to meet the hero again. So its probably 10-15 for the reunion and another 10-20 for the resolution of the arc.

Also re-reading it,
killing the hero would be a huge crime and make you the enemy of multiple nations. He was seriously ready for the death penalty just to end that guy. Luckily the real mastermind came into play and saved Sain. And our MC didn't have to carry that burden. Toru was ready to end a life that day.
Those two girls
going back to the village, do we see them ever again or they just disappear into the back ground? I read somewhere they are waiting for MC back at the village but is he going to see them?
Can you give some info on this, can't wait like 5 years to know what will happen :meguu:
Thanks
never mind got the answers on a previous comment

Yeah this is a fetish manga. There are tons and tons of manga that do rape justice, this isn't one of them. Heck, even a porn like Metamorphosis is better than this garbage.

That's what I wanted to hear. That puts this manga LEAGUES ahead of many out there.

I know this is dumb and these authors always find it away to justify it but in this case it literally prevents her from killing herself
why being slave of one guy when you can be the slave of another guy huh... slavery is always the answer if you are a female in a generic shounen power fantasy manga... Edit: Normally I don't mind the slave trope in isekais but thinking that's the ONLY solution is very stupid... Edit2: Specially in a setting where literally magic exist...

Don't tell me it's suddenly going to turn into a Harem of those girls after he turned them into slaves 😐
The story has to sell light novels and manga volumes to the self-insert audience that is willing to spend money buying these books. So of course the harem must continue to increase or else the audience gets bored with no new people entering the harem.

It's a Japanese culture thing. CP was only made illegal in Japan in the mid 2000s (due to international pressure), which is why the Rouroni Kenshin mangaka had so much in his house when he was arrested and charged, and only received a short sentence for it (most or all of it had been obtained before it was made illegal). It had only been illegal for like 2 years when he got arrested.

Incest is an issue, too. People joke about Alabama, but Japan allows marriage to first cousins as well, and unlike in the US, Japan has a lot of entertainment and media that shows cousins getting married as the good ending. Or siblings... there is a lot of that, too.

Basically, due to having different worldviews, Japanese culture had developed a different morality (one that seems contradictory if you grow up with a western worldview), and that has only been changing to some degree since after WWII.
