i don't remember how early was the confession in lonely girl
but this is such a good chapter

My guess is not ending, just that it won't go over well right away and there'll be stress and drama for a while through and even after the contest, but I could be wrong ofc.

There's also just a fair bit that still needs to be addressed, for it to be ending soon.

We have to get through the Big Battle with Miyuki, we need Yuu confronting her sister and her mother, we need Yuu & Haru coming out to Hikari, and we need Haru to complete her own personal character arc of "finding her voice (place)" and gaining the confidence she wants to find.

I hope that we don't get a bunch of backsliding from either of them in this, and that it's treated as a pillar of strength and motivation/renewed determination. But this could also be what crystallizes Haru's feelings, which we already see working their way into her lyrics, and pushes her over the last hurdle toward finding the "perfect song" to write, and the surge of having this relationship form between them to push all the harder to win.
There's a couple ways I could see it going that doesn't rely on Haru running away from Yuu's confession or either of their feelings, I think. It could help spur them to an even bigger win against Miyuki, or help them push through losing and still finding reasons to continue on.

And I think that'll take another volume, minimum, to get through.

Regarding the story, finally a confession!

Now please don’t become a “will she say yes?” type of arc. We still have other story conflicts like Yuu’s deadbeat mom, or Haru fully embracing her love and skill to sing.

It's been a while but I think it was actually earlier in Lonely Girl. A lot of that manga (and what I loved about it) was about them dating and supporting each other so I wouldn't be surprised if this has a similar plan

This chapter marked the end of volume 4, which means that we'll get at least another volume of 4~5 chapters, and considering Lonely Girl has 6 volumes, it wouldn't be weird to assume this one will have at least 6 volumes as well. But I'm not Kashikaze.
