Is it time for Sheena to disappear, just like Mimi's mom?

That would be a wild turn of events given Sheena/Shiina is the lens character through whom the reader primarily experiences the story.

i know the ugly truth of war ..

but it's still painful.
children go into battle, they often die, they lose loved ones, they get hurt or scarred for life (or what's left of it).
and the worst part is, they don't even know why they fight.
why they die.
they will never know the reason.

it's driving me nuts.

The cause is talked about in chapter 26, the school's country has a super grimoire that the other country wants. It's possibly the same spellbook that Mimi's mom used to make her immortal.
But you could also read it that the whole story's just propaganda on the country's part, like, "Our noble goal is to prevent this dangerous weapon from falling into the definitely very evil enemy's hands, by feeding children into a woodchipper."
So since it's a (maybe) pointless cause and also a specific mcguffin, the war could end by destroying it or showing that it's nothing special.

If it was me writing this story, I would probably have an event where the school is attacked, and Mimi protects Sheena at the cost of several other students' lives, so the adults try to separate them in order to focus on the war effort.

It's definitely the most anxiety I've ever had from waiting for each new chapter of a series.
