Summer homework usually isn't a thing in the US because here, Summer break separates two school years. You normally won't have the same teacher and course two years in a row. In Japan, Summer break is shorter and is in the middle of the school year. So they can assign homework that they'll receive after the break for the same class.

I don't think I've ever met a person in RL who was afraid of thunder, but in manga it has more often been girls, I think. Interesting, for a change, to see a dude in that role, even if I can't personally sympathise with it, as I quite like thunderstorms.
