First... Thank you so much for the painful reminder... I try to keep that one out of mind unless I'm actively reading the latest chapter of subatomic progress.Oh right okay. Because she's now aware of her feelings and will probably want to confess, people are saying this is getting axed. So by that logic we should have waited 298 chapters for her go go back an forth and still not accept/realise her feelings, while our boi MC fantasises getting NTRed... Oh does that plot sound familiar???
Yeah... Just enjoy some proper rom-com. Not every author is an idiot like Reiji.
You see a lot more "dating" arcs in Reiwa, but some of the longer running ones are still bearing that eternal tension cliche, apart from the newer ones that can't make the shift. On the one hand, I get it, it's harder to write pre and post confession, especially if you're an author that relies heavily on drama tropes to keep readers invested. Most drama is more believable and organic if it's not happening to a happy couple (unless you count interpersonal interactions, which again, requires a certain level of skill). Personally, I think between squeezing every Yen out of a work, lack of creativity, and perhaps sheer sloth, readers have been saddled with manga that just don't know when to "get on with it", and become lost in too much extraneous "crap".
That being said, the "pre-realization" portion of this particular one was varied enough, and "light" enough (from a romantic aspect) that I don't forsee it becoming stale and worn out before it reaches an actual confession. That's my hope anyway.
As far as the never-ending mess you referenced... One can only hope something, anything, significant happens. But I think the author is going to pull a reverse Umi card as soon as there's real progress.
