great overall plot. I very much loved the growth of kondou and tachibana through touching each others lives. I feel the weaker part of this series was in its side characters. But at the same time what I liked about the side characters is their independence from the main plot. They do not serve to support or hinder the direct development of the main duo. This is after all, a story about tachibana and kondou. I also love that despite kondou's flaws, he was still very mature and kept his wits about him in order to push tachibana forward. And tachibana who was running away from her struggles and using her new-found love to cope was able to help kondou re-kindle what he lost.

I don't think this series was amazing or executed in the best way, but I like it quite a bit and can see why it won an award.

The anime of this is on Amazon Prime, and it's excellent btw

@Sp12er it's a good ending, it seems that there is a segment of the public that doesn't want to leave things to their own imagination and would like to have a wedded bliss ending spelled out for them. There's nothing in the end that indicates that there may not be a future between them, but there's nothing that says there will be either. Like you stated, the story really wasn't about the romance, that was just a vehicle for the story. People need to broaden their horizons a bit.

This was a great conclusion. Can't say there are many of them nowadays, so when a story concludes the way it should be, it feels extra special. In the end, how each person views the story is subjective, but I'd say this is one of those endings that had no twist whatsoever, it ended the way the story promised it would end, so the readers should have seen it coming.

Like some other people said, I wanted to see how the side characters' stories would end up, but it was just left out. That's my only complaint. I also think that Yoshizawa had potential to do something... but he didn't and that ending scene for him was even more disappointing. I also wanted to read more about Haruka and that guy she was talking to, they were cute haha.

Anyone want to speculate what he said to her before he drove off? I'm gonna guess it's something like 'sayonara'. Or maybe 'you're fired for seducing the boss don't come back' LOL.

Still really thankful there's a comment section for each specific chapter, it's been great to read about what other people think since I don't know many people that read manga. It's quite therapeutical xD

Well, it was nice as it was. Main couple didn't end up together but that to be expected I suppose. Glad both of them manage to gain something from it though.

Lovely story. Yes, a few loose ends for the side characters (one could always hope for a separate volume to flesh the rest of the stories), but I think the ending serves very well for all the build-up to it. This was a more realistic, slice-of-life, coming-of-age story where I never expected the main pair to actually get together. The bittersweet, but ultimately happy outlook shows how many of the characters have grown and matured over a year of drama: resolving oneself, hard work and small victories, heartache, melancholy, and also many brief, unexpected moments of joy.

If you're one of the readers that are mad they didn't get together, I'm worried about your expectations for romance manga (and maybe, by extension, your views on love in real life). There are hundreds if not thousands of stories about couples getting together (go read those; I too enjoy the diabetes, and I get that manga is escapism for many people... it's been there for me to unwind from the day and also gotten me through a lot of tough times), but there's also space for stories like this where we see the considerations and struggles of people in trying to figure out each other and see if a relationship is feasible. There are so many emotional, familial, and social angles for the main couple to work out (not to mention if they'd actually be a long-term good fit for each other), that I'm glad they decided to follow their dreams and not become emotional crutches for each other and run away from their problems. To demand a story turn out a certain way even though what actually happens in the story is reasonable, now that's some entitled, if not delusional, thinking...

Relationships are, after all, a lot of work. And often a lot of coupling don't work out or even happen in the first place. While it was a punch to the gut to see Yoshizawa reject Nishida, I'm glad the author didn't go for the usual trope of the side characters getting together and becoming foils for the main pair. This what-could-have-been pairing instead becomes the chance for one of the goofier characters to grow up and find her own purpose / identity. And I've also met people in real life similar to Yoshizawa and Nishida (may they find happiness in their lives). So while we might hope for a fateful encounter with our soul mate (I happen to believe we might have more than one compatible match...), we most likely will need to put in the effort even if it doesn't always work out.

Kinda sad nothing more happened with the romance but I think I prefer it this way better. For one the age gap would have caused a lot of problems. With this, they both found the courage to continue with their dreams and had a beautiful memory of love. I'd like to think that maybe some years in the future they would meet again and have a different ending, or not. Regardless, this was a beautiful conclusion to a beautiful story. Thanks Roselia for all the hardwork in translating for us!!

I was surprised there wasn't more with Yoshizawa since it really seemed like he liked Yui but didn't realize, oh well. I like Yui but Akira and Manager's relationship was more of my interest

I don't quite get the symbolism.

Her love for Kondou was a crutch to cope with her injury, a excuse she set for herself as a reason not to compete anymore. Check.

They first met during a rainy and that's how it all started, rain has been symbollic of Akira's love for Kondou during the whole manga, she takes refuge from the rain on her life within it. Check

Now the thing I don't get is that she didn't gradually outgrow her crush. There was no indication that her feelings had lessened at all until the sudden 180 at the very end.

Maybe she didn't, maybe she just put them on hold?

And as for Kondou's rejection, that was ambigous too, lots of ways to interpret it.

I know this is by design, the romantic angle is left completely in the air, it's more about two characters giving each other the strength to go back to something they had abandoned.

Now this was a great ending !
The symbolism and everything !
When I began reading I expected some generic age gap stuff with an ending where both get together, so this ending was an excellent surprise .
Overall a really great read !

It's a shame it ended like this. Don't see a reason why, if they falled in love with each other, they didn't ended up together. No valid reason at all. Love requires courage too.

The sad thing is we could have had this ending much sooner. I felt happy that haruka and akira became good friends agains but reading all of this for that is kinda disapoiting, also would have expected haruka and the soccer senpai to date.

Hello Roselia Scans. I'd like to personally thank you for translating the manga Koi Wa Ameagari no You Ni
It's been a favourite of mine ever since you guys started translating it back in 2017. The anime was fantastic and the completion of the manga afew months ago only made my heart more content that it already is. I've been back and running into my passion of music and art ever since then. And i just want to say again.

Thank You. For giving me passion once again. :)

This is the ending everyone should've expected, but Kondou really got the short end of the stick throughout the entire story. Guy tries his best to hide his life problems and be upstanding, yet he gets shit from his coworkers, his wife left him, he rarely gets to see his kid even on birthdays, and Akira - being the first to make him feel like his hobby isn't worthless - moves on from her crush/excuse not to go back to track running. Just one more heartache near the end of his life, a "sacrifice" to put Akira back on the right track. Poor bastard.
That said, this manga is in dire need of an epilogue for all the side characters.

this was bitter sweet. I personally wanted a happy ending between the 2. instead its entirely cut off. I guess my bias from DNK is showing. and Izuru Kiss.
