@smolbaka word! Those who like to crossdress don't necessarily have to be trans or nonbinary!

@smolbaka I agree that some of the comments are jumping the gun, and that it isn't yet certain whether the author is going to make Hiura trans, or a gender non-conforming male. But its not unreasonable to think this might go in a trans direction, given that Hiura is not only crossdressing, but wearing the girl's uniform to school. Hiura is risking bullying, being barred from school by the teachers, problems with Hiura's parents when the school calls them, etc. Most crossdressing guys I've talked to, if they crossdress to work/school at all, do so in somewhat androgynous clothes, since they don't want to deal with bigotry. So wearing overtly female clothes to school, especially in conservative Japan, is more commonly a trans action than a crossdressing male one.

Obviously that doesn't inherently mean Hiura is trans. Some gender non-conforming men do wear overtly female clothing to school/work. And I think such men are awesome for pushing back against gender norms. But I also don't think its fair to mock people for suggesting that Hiura may be trans.

@mirewitch

>Since you're going to school cross-dressing You obviously want to be a girl

Little bit iffy logic there but the last paragraph I agree with

@smolbaka I didn't say Hiura "obviously wants to be a girl." I said it was a reasonable possibility. But I'm glad we at least partially agree.

@mirewitch

There's a possibility yeah. But it seems in most cases it's the expression, not the gender identity of said person.

Oh, here we go...

The same folks who paint every crossdressing character as trans.

I'm pretty sure it is insulting to actual trans people.

That's a good possibility, both in a manga story, and in real life. Many times a male-to-female transgender teen will have a female gender identity, despite being perceived as a male at birth, but will go for decades without having the mental or emotional courage to take even the first few steps toward transitioning. Many have to have an outside force give them a 'jump start' , or a 'kick in the rear' before they finally move to affirm their correct gender identity of a cute, teenage female. This is the case IRL, and this could be the case for the manga character of Hiura. The wearing of the sailor fuku ( sailor suit ) to school does seem to imply that Hiura is finally off and running to transition to a cute transgirl !

I feel like at some point we need to draw the line between “traps” and transgender people. It’s already happening, but actual trans people being called traps is not ok, but on the other hand, if trans representation is done well?

Also, @Insignificant, that’s a lot of self repression you got going on there, I guessing you can’t accept that these “cute anime boys” are purposefully trying to look like girls and therefore are the every thing you despise? But I’ll try my best to ignore the troll
