That’s common in real life. A lot of times it’s even more insignificant background that can cause bullying and rejection. It doesn’t stop at childhood, it can carry on to some of the greatest universities and congresses. Just today I was told by a relative a story of a bunch of cardiologists from the capital that kept humiliating newer ones that came from the countryside in their presentation ordering them to stop and talking about how bad they were to the superior in charge in front of them. Not even doctors are safe from this.

It’s actually surprising that a dumb manga actually had a board of directors recognizing that can be a huge issue that could waste an useful talent.

Shoutout to the dedication of MC, 3 whole years of training and he's still aiming to die on the frontlines. You'd think he'd have grown past the suicidal thoughts at this point considering he has friends and is doing well in everything besides the practical stuff (on purpose too). Probably forgot about his ex by now but still somehow thinks he should die because he isn't some rich kid (He got depressed because she said she doesn't see him moving up in life, but here he is prepping to become a high-ranking officer).

Definitely missed a bit of the explanation on why he wasn't originally accepted to the Royal Academy, and his GF basically running away to be the fifth wife or something of Jain. Admittedly I wasn't fully expecting the second chapter to go over it, but yeah.

Spoiler: Mostly curtailed backstory

Basically those rich conglomerate/noble sons flooded the Royal Academy, preventing any student from the 'General' admissions from entering even if they had a scholarship. His GF was in a relationship with him for years during general schooling before this, and was also an orphan. So basically Jain could be thought of as the literal roadblock because he essentially took not only his GF, but his cushy future job.

Anyway, glad to see this getting a pretty decent manga. Now to watch the spiral of incompetence reach its inevitable conclusion.

What i always found funny is the rating the manga get, like this one is not so bad and deserves this rating but seeying worse trash end up with 9/10 score is silly

I feel like this kind of MC works better as a side character rather than a main one. We're going to end up going thru everything from his perspective, meaning no will ever know he just wants to die (i'd actually be surprise if someone does learn of this and tries to change his mind). If each mission depicted ends in an fail suicide attempt because "reasons" then it just feels formulaic (like phineas and ferb, not the best example, but there).
I'm also just not fan of when the story makes all the other characters more interesting than the main one. I'm sure we'll get chapters dedicated to them one by one, and the mc will comfort them enough to make them swoon (though he'll never respond because of how his character is written).

I'm just here for the fanservice and art, and I'm grateful for the translators picking this series up because we'd never get an opportunity otherwise to even check it out. Thank you~

this, influential background and corruption go hand in hand. and TL forgot to translate a few words. there were students from powerful backgrounds who failed to graduate/didn't make the cut, so they dont want to receive complaints from assigning an orphan to a high ranking position while children from influential families failed the assessment.

As Ra-den in WoW once said: "The only answer to corruption is destruction." Meritocracy for all.
