kumakyuu comes from the SFX of 'kyuu' キュウ　for hugging something soft and kumayuru comes from SFX 'yuru' ゆる usually used to depict something swaying around. So the translator might use the english equivalent or it's direct transliteration.

I suspect the 'tragic backstory' comment is about how Hugging Bear is pouting about having to spend all that time cooped up in her glove as opposed to roaming free and being ridden like Swaying Bear; the W/LN makes a point of her switching back and forth so they don't get upset about being ignored, but I don't think there's ever a case where we actually see one being upset about it. (Implied they could be, yes. Or my memory just sucks.)
