I LOVE how different this has become from the light novel. They're retaining her fun personality, and I am ALL for that.

@Vmpslushie @maelstroon ...except the Parallel Wills went to work on Mother umpteen chapters ago and have basically been eating her alive since, WYM "out of nowhere". The groundwork Kumoko laid long ago saved her decapitated spider ass from errors borne of hubris now.

After reading through the new skills I bet that Egg Laying lv10 skill will be important to the plot.

You should learn what "Chekhov's gun" means. This "out of nowhere" started 14-16 chapters ago and was shown multiple times since then. Re-read if you have bad memory.

If you want to see a real chekhovs gun just watch the new season of sword art online. This is NOT chekhov's gun.

one of the strangest and most complex power ups in manga imo but also a very important one for the story. very happy with how it was adapted.

But it is.
"If you have a rifle hanging on the wall in the first act, then later it absolutely must go off. If it's not going to be fired, it shouldn't be hanging there." (c) Chekhov

The gun was hung 2 years ago and now it's fired.

Eh... I feel like by making the alters come back with massive stats and boost her enough to win you really negate the realization she just had of “Oh no, just relying on stats is not enough to win.” I really think she should’ve been forced to retreat in some manner.

I also think it’s a bit of a shame the way the author has the manga laid out currently there is no real “loss” for kumo to suffer. This would be a good moment narratively for her hubris to cause the death of a loved one, or the loss of a limb, or important item, etc. leading to growth but the series is basically laid out in such a way there’s nothing to lose but maybe the alters which seemingly can only be split by Kumo’s own choice.

This would be all much more bearable, if she alteast not had LITERALL IMORTALITY.
She already has a shitton of other skills. God mod is not something that is useful to create good stories. Unless there's some HUGE drawback to it.

tbf many forget that the reason why the parallel minds came back in this moment is because they sensed that the main body was about to die.
Even the Power-Up isn't really that difficult to expect, they have been eating Mother's soul for like 10 capters and knowing that energy can't be destroyed but only transformed then it was obvious that the minds were absorbing Mother's soul.

"death of a loved one"
I wouldn't expect this one, On the bottom of her personality she doesn't really cares about anyone but herself. This combined with the other reincarnators chapters (that the manga kindly decided to cut) is how the reader can discover who Kumoko was in the classroom.
