I wonder if it's the level of incompetence of typical nobles in this country. Or the weapon technology is in a delicate balance where both guns and swords are useful. After all, even breech-loading guns don't shoot all that fast.

Didn't he just give Eyra a shadow clone to help her fight with? So where is it? Of course something like that is introduced and then never shown in action. If the spell has worn off, why hasn't she returned to him? There's this puzzling disconnect between what they say and what we see depicted.

They actually showed where Melphina was keeping her talismans (her chest armor apparently also serves as her pockets), usually things like this are left as "hammerspace items" and never addressed. Fanservice I guess.
