What would MC's "modern Japanese standards" do in a situation like this?So...how does he plan to deal with Philip and Elena's uncle?
I mean, after pulling something like THAT on a psychotic incl, he doesn't expect Philip to just walk away, right?
Not to mention that what these two pulled can't just be IGNORED. If anything, refusing to deal with them makes him an accomplice by inaction. Isn't he supposed to hold onto modern Japanese standards? What parts of Japan would say "piss off the psychotic incl and call it a day"?
Yet he acts so boldly with the PRINCESS? Double standards, much? What would MC's "modern Japanese standards" do in a situation like this?
He doesn't have any proof on what those two did to Elena, and officially she has been declared dead and there is no one to testify it's false, unless her mother is still alive somehow and isn't part of their plan and could testify.
Even if the situation because where the truth is revealed, Elena's current position is that of a Slave, so for the Noble Society of that World, her value is less than that of even a Commoner (though probably higher than a Demi-Human), considering how they treat people around.
So, unless Philip and Elena's Uncle directly target MC, there is no way he could do anything against them, especially since he doesn't even has any personal issues with them.
I mean, if MC has the status of a Marquis and an Army Commander, he is still considered to be a Lower Noble from a New Noble Family.
On the other-hand, Philip is an Imperial Knight, meaning he is a Higher Noble, and Elena's Uncle is probably also equal or higher in rank than MC.
So, balance of power is also not right for MC to do anything directly or even indirectly, unless they come at him first.
I skimmed through the raws and Elena has no more scenes after this so is this where her arc ends? With her master publicly harassing her and admonishing her for wanting to do something regarding what is a BLATANT PROOF of corruption within the empire that he'll let fester? What would MC's "modern Japanese standards" do in a situation like this?

Well, LN plot wise, the Manga is currently covering Vol.4 (this is based on the Manga Raws).I skimmed through the raws and Elena has no more scenes after this so is this where her arc ends? And?Yet he acts so boldly with the PRINCESS? Double standards, much?
The least he could do is inform the princess of what he heard Philip say.
So you're saying that he just lets a BLATANT SIGN OF CORRUPTION fester within the empire?
Some hero he is.
While she didn't openly FIGHT the corruption, the way you put it, dealing with Philip means going up against an aspect of said corruption.Well, LN plot wise, the Manga is currently covering Vol.4 (this is based on the Manga Raws).
And there are a total of 14 volumes released so far for the LN in Japan.
So a lot of plot is there in the story.
For the Corruption stuff, can you really do anything about it unless you are at the very top, and this applies to MC as well (currently he is at the very bottom of Nobility, even if he rules a land).
Elena on the other hand didn't want to fight the Corruption. She just wanted revenge for what those two had done to her.
And in doing so she would have gotten executed.
I mean, if you saw the raws, then you should know what happens to a lower class person (like Demi-Human or Slave) if they hurt a High Ranking Noble (Chapter 15 & 16 raws shows that).
And this is why I prefer vicious sadistic revengers over sleazy hypocrites. At least they get shit done. And?
Even if he informs her, what would she do without proof when officially Elena the Noble is dead, and there is no one to prove who she is.
Princess clearly knows there is heavy corruption, and she even took MC's help to take down a remote land Noble for doing that (in Part 1 of this Series). But even she has limitations.
Plus, the corruption here is mainly internal, aka., within Elena's family.
Elena's Uncle got her Father killed, then with Philip plotted a Bandit attack on her house and got her kidnapped and sold as slave and orchestrated a situation of proving that the real one is dead by killing a maid who looks similar to Elena (also speculated that her mother is also killed by them, but no proof yet). All this was done so that the Uncle could take over the family property which was meant to go to Elena.
So, this isn't something that affects the nation, for the Princess to act on (as Elena's Uncle wasn't embezzling tax money which would affect the nation).
In the end, everyone looks out for themselves when it comes to Politics (be past or modern), and unless there is some benefit no one acts on a obvious issue.
"If" the character arc really ended at that point. While she didn't openly FIGHT the corruption, the way you put it, dealing with Philip means going up against an aspect of said corruption.
And since she has no scenes in the raws I saw (and since I can't read Japanese, I only understand what I see, which is why that part in 15/16 went over my head (or I simply never READ 15/16 yet), it just looks like her character arc ends with her being essentially told "shut up and suck me off while doing my taxes". No closure, be it satisfaction or moving on, just put in her place without agency. That's a terrible way to end a character arc.
Unfortunately for you, this isn't that kind of story. In fact, it has a lot more in common with Risou no Himo Seikatsu, only instead of starting at the very top as the queen's consort, MC has to work his way up from the bottom as the adopted son of one of the lowest-ranked nobles in the kingdom. And this is why I prefer vicious sadistic revengers over sleazy hypocrites.
The situation between Naofumi, Keyaru & Kurono is quite different. And this is why I prefer vicious sadistic revengers over sleazy hypocrites. At least they get shit done.
Naofumi had the merit of not being a hypocrite. He hates the way the innocent are treated and treats his slave well.
While Kurono here openly does stuff that he KNOWS his slave hates, even while trying to look like he has the moral high ground.
Say what you will about Keyaru, but at least he makes it clear that revenge is his main motivation, with other stuff coming second, at least at first.
