Are Yamato people fundamentally incapable of surviving without rice?

This seems to be a recurring theme in isekai series... The protagonist goes on a fuckin quest for rice and soy sauce.
Yeah okay, I'd be a bit peeved if I had to go without bread for a long time... but that is because bread is convenient. If I had some sort of suitable alternative like tasty leaves or something, I'd be fine. But this... this is ridiculous.

Just a strange thought, but I've never once in all my time watching anime and reading manga EVER seen anyone in either medium acknowledge the existence of brown rice... but then most of the rice I've had is pretty much Indian rice, and why would Japan bother with some other distant country's rice when rice is their own staple?

... Still, can't imagine being so dependent on it. My main source of carbs is bread, but I'd be fine with potatoes... or pasta...

@SotiCoto oh i know about that brown rice. in vietnam we call it "gạo lứt". normally we eat white rice but theres my brother who is a gymer eat brown rice. and i've been eating white rice ever since i was a kid so it's very hard to change
