The more that goes on the more convinced I become that she really wasn't, but someone threw a rumor out there that she was a slut and it probably hurt her (even if she didn't show it). It could be the guy that she kissed that Nao saw. She told him she wasn't interested in him and dating and he got mad and started spreading a rumor that she was a slut to make himself feel better OR some girls (specifically one that liked this guy) found out about the kiss and started spreading a rumor about Luna being a slut to get back at her.

When it's in a language where there are very different ways of saying goodbye to someone if you expect to see them again versus not, and saying the former to someone you just met indicates you're okay with seeing them again and/or they're welcome to come see you again, especially if this is the second time you've met and told them you can't play with them today because you already made plans with someone else.

I don't have the raws to look, but there's a big difference between, say, "Mata ne" and "Sayounara."

People really are merciless about that stuff. I remember my first crush when I was in 6th grade and she was in 5th, and people were already spreading nasty rumors about her and telling me not to talk to her.

Looking back now, over 20 years later, I realize she was just a kid and people were simply gossiping and being cruel. The rumors got so bad that she ended up switching schools. It’s wild how easily kids get labeled over nothing, and how much damage that kind of talk can do.
