Ok first congrats on anime!!! When I saw the announcement on reddit everyone was commenting snek girl so I read where I left off which was ch 13 and that's when Snek chan was introduced basically lol and couldn't stop reading. Honestly, all the girls I like but yeah...I can't help but like Snek chan a lot. Kusunoki’s cute as expected of the main girl and you have to love the cute smol tom boy but Snek chan is definetly the most interesting ngl. Even without her family/background I really like seeing her teasing and stuff or just how she behaves, I guess? like the other two very anime girl while Snek is kinda as well but I could see irl I guess. I just enjoy her more I guess?

I don't ship her with the MC that much though.

what's funniest about the people talking shit about Hebikawa--

Is that up to now, she's actually not done anything to Kusunoki, other than decide that she "wanted to see Kusunoki's darkness". But the (relatively few) times she's actually interacted with Kusunoki, she's not done or said anything to her specifically that could be considered "bad". She teased Kusunoki a little about whether she had a crush on Keisuke (which is when she first clued in that Kusunoki might have some subconscious feelings that she could weaponize)--and she talked shit about Irie during the Festival Play, wherein Kusunoki defended Irie, said some heartfelt stuff toward Hebikawa, and Hebikawa got mad on her own about how it seemed like Kusunoki was 'judging her' (and it was entirely her own read of the interaction, after-the-fact).

Like, she's done actual fuck-all toward the FL, and while she is determined to "use" Keisuke to get to Kusunoki, she's instead started falling for him bit by bit as he continues being authentic around her and not letting her play the "fake act" she's gotten down pat. And even her "bullying" that we've seen toward others, past and present, was a reaction to being bullied herself, and then badmouthing people in "polite ways" to turn others against them.

You'd think she'd killed Kusunoki's cat, the way some people talk about her, but in truth she's actually been very ineffective toward the FL this entire time, only reiterating her desire to "unmask" Kusunoki, but making no actual progress (and finding herself slowly changing, to boot).

Just entertaining how much hate she gets from those who dislike her, and how disproportionate it seems the moment you actually read the story.
No, she did bully Kusunoki when she first invited her to movie, and she did it on purpose to anger her and to see her "dark side". She literally make drove Kusunoki to tears, as MC saw when he was consoling her later. Snek specifically said (well, thought) that she on purpose get her lackeys with her, not telling Kusunoke anything about it, while she clearly at first hold them off, when they wanted to make fun of FeMC after she blundered, then later gave signal to attack her just to ruin her day and observe the result. MC is very right to be careful of snake trying to "befriend" Kusunoki and to be protective.

Saying she only bullied people in reaction, or "in polite way" is revisionist bullshit, sorry. When she noticed MC's vomiting was due to him feeling uncomfortable with her, she went to infirmary specifically because she got interested in that, and not only she bothered a sick person, she went out to corner him physically when he was laying in bed, fully knowing he hates it to the point of getting sick, just because she wanted to know something that was someone's private issue. If the gender were reversed, she would be looking like a rapist or asshole scaring a traumatized (maybe even by sexual assault, she doesn't know at that point) girl.

She also snapped on one of her lackeys once, and the girl was visible scared of upsetting her, just because the other girl smiled at something Hebi disliked, or something like that. She's interesting character, but she's a real bitch and mean queen bee whenever she wants to push someone's buttons, or she's not in the mood, or just feels like it - fortunately that last one is rare, which makes her different from your average bully, but several times she didn't care when she was hurting someone, just because she felt interested in observing her victim. You're going way to far in smoothing over or straight up ignoring her shittier behavior, and undeservedly attack few of the more reasonable people of those who dislike her. Saying that she in high school she is hurting people less then the other , non-bully characters of the main cast, when she was several times show as indifferent to any emotional harm she creates with several characters just on her whim, crosses the line to wacky.
