Those kinds of people you're describing tend to not get into much trouble in the first placeI'm being reminded why I don't read stories like these very often....Or, at all, really.
There's nothing inherently wrong with it, but at some point in your life, seeing young characters fumble social situations again, and again, and again -- acting abhorrently irrationally, constantly making the wrong choice because "I'm so awkward" is....Painful to see.
It thematically makes sense, they're kids, but fuck me, man. These stories are always about the awkward kids, never about the extroverts who can maneuver more fluidly, and directly.
You're making too broad of a brush stroke, right there. You think extroverts lead perfect lives? You nuts? Those kinds of people you're describing tend to not get into much trouble in the first place
and a story without much conflict wouldn't be very applicable for a manga with several volumes
its about knowing your audience. I get the novelty of socially awkward introverts wanting to understand the issues faced by extroverts, but there just aren't a lot of extroverts reading manga, at least in comparison to the amount of socially awkward introverts who are trying to find a "relatable" escape from their actual lives. You're making too broad of a brush stroke, right there. Just because the over-represented awkward-introvert constantly creates trouble for themselves, doesn't mean that an extrovert lives the perfect, stress-free life. It just means that their problems lie somewhere else.
Go check out Clannad, at least the visual-novel. The MC maneuvers social encounters fluidly with humor and sarcasm -- but occasionally shows vulnerability due to his domestic problems (shitty dad). He's a troubled youth, he has his problems, but he doesn't create a problem out of thin air because "awkwarrrddd...".
I don't argue these sort of stories don't sell, but that there's an exhausting amount of the same tropes. I'd want more Clannad MCs around.its about knowing your audience. Truth be told the readers of manga like those that you described are looking for self inserts who they can pretend relate to so they can live vicariously through the story being told. "I'm socially awkward like him." "I struggle around girls." "If I put effort into my appearance i could be just like the protagonist."
its about escapism while remaining relatable. Its cookie cutter for a reason, because cookies in that shape sell.
I feel you homie, but i think that puts you in the minority by which I mean there's just not a market for a lot of stories like that at this time. Maybe trends will shift in the future as these mediums (manga, VN's, Anime) become more popular in the mainstream and you'll start seeing more stories along those lines, but for the time being i think you're just gunna need to sort through the slop till you find something that matches what you're looking for.I don't argue these sort of stories don't sell, but that there's an exhausting amount of the same tropes.
