While it is shitty of her, try thinking of it from her perspective. People are being fake if I'm trying to be kind, and understanding, and try to take things away from me, and the moment she acted mean, and tried to push others to be honest, she won it all. Even if you think kindess are things to thrive for, if you kept growing up and winning by being an asshole, you probably just feel like the kindness you see is just some pretense, hence why she can't bring herself to believe the main girl is being genuine, or hasn't had her "awakening" yet.

The main issue is that she gave no room to try that again and just kept going with it.

So, you're telling me that if the people that you thought were your friends who were close to you turned on you without any proof whatsoever and acted in this way you would still be a "nice" person? I dunno about that...they're kids. They found their nice attitude got them nowhere so now the facade of a mean person needs to be used. Add to it that persona needs to be maintained to keep the things around me, because she probably believes they are around her because of her personality you get this.

Not saying she is a great person, but I can see it from her perspective. She looked up to someone nice, was nice to those around her, and instead of getting good things out of it she just got hurt....definitely would turn a kid into a mean person seeing that their efforts were wasted.

it isn't about going 'eye for an eye'. Technically there wasn't any need to be mean back to them, but it's still understandable if she kept it just to that one girl that wronged her. But no, she seemed to revel in it, and instead of ''punching back'' once and going her way, she made that her default, going on to wrong people that did her no wrong, hurting others just as she was hurt.
And it doesn't justify her keeping that behavior for all those years even when SHE KNOWS IT'S WRONG.
The mean person isn't a facade, it's her true nature and her trying to be nice was the facade all along. I'd understand if it was just more than "one group of people decided to be mean to me once, so now I'm mean to everyone else" but with it happening just ONCE it isn't believable that she'd turn out mean bc of it. A setup like that would work if the entire class turned against her, in multiple instances them lashing out against her or something, not 3 people being mean once.

Some people here expecting a 15 years old teenager to be an omnipotent gifted child that could solve every social situation perfectly is kinda absurd.

To anyone who might complain about the "classic" story that is supposed to theoretically justify the girl's character I only remind that monsters are made, not born. And every "monster" has a story to tell. That's all.
