Following this series is so difficult because of how inconsistent mao mao's intelligence is. She can go one moment from being a super genius that solves some obscure in the shadows conspiracy with some advanced knowledge most people in the modern age don't even know to taunting and insulting the obviously sociopathic lunatic that could behead her at any moment if she felt like it. I get she did it for the kid, I really do, but showing an act of kindness at the risk of her own life just does not sound like something she would do.

Maomao has a strong sense of justice. It has nothing to do with her intelligence. She has shown again and again that she will do the opposite of what's logically correct if it means saving someone.

Why do you think she got involved with the nobles to begin with? Her first case was literally her saving Gyokuyou's daughter even though she knew it would give her unwanted attention. Did she also not risk her own life when she saved Jinshi on the altar?

Anyone who thinks Maomao is someone who only made decisions based on her logic clearly doesn't get her character.

Are these chapter parts the format in which the serial releases or the format that the scan group uploads? Waiting is killing me

The manga is a near 1:1 adaptation of the LN (this should be the standard unless its its a final draft that expands on the source material like DUO) so things are stretched out over more Manga chapters vs the original LN chapters. As a result you get chapters split into multiple parts.
