Damn. From what I've seen, people like Maron who will give all the kindness in the world are people who don't recieve that much kindness themselves. They hope to fill that absence with others' gratitude or maybe even their dependence, but those things are different from unconditional, non-obligitory kindness. Yeah, they might be accepted and even admired, but because they're only in that position because of the things they do and not because of person they are, there's a major tendency to feel like they're not truly wanted. If a person can fill their position, or worse surpass them in it, in their head there's no reason people would come back to them. It's really sad to see
